((ooc: spoiler if you intend on reading Nabari no Ou))
[The screen flickers then flashes with a brief scene in a place neither here nor there. A
scene in a place just of mist and fog, with no floor, no sky, no walls. Just the fluttering of wings and a gust of feathers rushing past, breaking to let two forms be scene just for a moment. If you blinked you might miss it, might believe that you hadn't seen it. that it was just a trick of your eye.
Because with no discernible transition or warning, that place of light above and darkness below is gone, gone like an illusion, gone like something neither of Earth or the After.
And now the screen is just watching the great tree in Himorogi. A common sight to most of you by now.
Watching like its waiting for something and someone. And sure enough a light breaks through the cracks in the bark. It grows upward in a line like a trick of the sun, then across, and then down until it has formed the illusion of a doorway on the trunk of the tree. It shines. light filling the screen until it is broken by a tall black figure stepping into the center, then through it, emerging into the natural light of day. He seems almost see through at first, even his skin more like worn silk with the leaves and branches behind him showing through before very quickly he becomes solid, the hem of a black coat swirling around thin legs and pale face becomes visible to the device.
And the door disappears as soon as that last black boot departs from it. Gone. It wasn't real in the first place. Not really at least. There is no mark left on the trunk.
Now just a person. Just a boy. Tall, slim, with that familiar hat, and those tattered gloves. Just standing, wide eyed for a moment before he finally takes in the place that surrounds him.
And as it dawns on him. Where he is. Where he has come. And where he has come from.
....and what he has finished....
He smiles.
He smiles and then reaching up a hand to grab that puffy hat off his head he grins. And clutching that hat to his chest with two hands he laughs, thrusts his arms out like wings, and spins as if he were a small child.
And then he stumbles backwards and falls, still laughing, onto his bottom.
And only when he finally catches a deep breath does he flop back into the grass, close his eyes, and whisper just loud enough for the device to overhear]
Home.
