"Tricky grandstanding" is a terrific phrase used in this context. The only thing that felt out of kilter was "It takes him less than 0.437 nanoseconds to school his features." If this were Spock's POV, I'd buy it. But I don't think Nyota has that same ability to measure time that precisely. For everything else, well done!

I must pay you fanservice: I'm KanSol on ff.net and your story People Will Say was the first Star Trek fic I've ever read. It is a superior work of fiction. OK. Thank you very much for your compliments and critique. Writing from Spock's POV was my intention and it was a no-go. I've 'updated' the line to reflect Uhura's ability.
