Car dream
One of last night's dreams on the flip side.
I had some appointment in Chicago, no doubt an academic conference. But for some reason, I didn't plan on how to get there, so I had to drive there. Or, for whatever reason, I was driving the last leg of the journey. Then, as I was exiting the freeway, it got so dark and my eyesight so obscure I somehow lost the road, and crashed into some shrub. I looked around (still inside the car), but couldn't see anything. So what I did was turn on my brights, and then basically pick up the car, a la the Flintstones, and walk around, using the headlights as flashlights. I eventually found my way back onto a road.
Looking back, I found that I'd driven through a short white fence surrounding a house's front yard (which wasn't actually so shrub-happy, but that's how dreams work, I guess). I got out of the car to write a note to the owners of the house, and walked several feet from the car. When I turned around, I saw that the car was gone, no doubt stolen. I panicked, ran around a bit...and time passed.
When morning came I started out for a police station. I was very near some sort of public square, so I thought there'd be a police officer around - and indeed there was a woman who looked like she was one. But as I got closer, it began to look more and more like she was just wearing a costume. I then overheard someone start to ask, "Do you know where...," to which she replied, "No, I do not!" That decided me, so I started to head down the street in search of another officer.
The entire street was lined by huge concrete bleachers, filled with youngish people wearing beach attire. I found, as I walked alongside the bleachers, that occasionally huge sprinklers would spray water onto the bleachers. However, there were no officers in supply, and at the end of the road, and the bleachers, there was a mall, all but abandoned. I was lamenting my still lacking car, when I overheard some people talking about all these kids on the bleachers, letting their inhibitions go. Among other things, apparently this inhibition release includes all the guys being willing to play games on the Wii.
