Fandom: Cowboy Bebop
Title: A very polka-dot affair
Characters: Ed, Faye
Setting: The Bebop

"Wow," Ed said slowly, elongating the word until it lasted several minutes. Faye smirked haughtily and spun around allowing the silkly, dark green material to flow around her long legs. She looked in the mirror and tightened the clip that held up her violet hair and then straightened the spaghetti straps of her dress. She smoothed her hands over the bodice and fingered the silver necklack that lay in the hollow of her neck.

"Come on Ed, we gotta get going before Spike and Jet wake up."

"Wheeee!" said Ed excitedly as she rolled onto her back, her feet pointed into the air making the ruffles of her white with green polka dot dress fall around her waist, revealing her black shorts underneath. And just as quickly as she rolled back, she nimbly was on her feet, saluting Faye.

"Ed is ready to go with Lady Faye!!!"

"Good, lets get to my ship and we'll head down to Mars for the party."

Ed put her arms out to the side and began making airplane noises and 'flew' ahead of Faye toward the airbay to the Red Tail. A delicately shaped brow arched up slowly as Ed disappeared from sight. Faye sighed and shook her head, cradling her forehead in her hands.

"I must be crazy to be taking her with me..." she muttered under her breath before she began moving forward. When she made it to the ship she found Ed draped over one of the wings her once clean dress now covered in some oil spots and dust. Faye sighed loudly and opened the hatch.

"Come on kid, let's get going."

Ed jumped in and quickly strapped on her seat belt. She looked around the inside of the ship and began pressing some buttons.

"Hey hey hey! Stop touching the buttons!" Faye yelled.

"Ed likes the buttons! The buttons are pretty and shiny!"

"Just don't touch them all right? And remember... we can't tell Spike about this."

Ed nodded, "Spike must never know."

Faye started her ship and left the docking bay and headed down toward the red planet. Ed began singing softly under her breath as she messed with the hem of her dress.

"Say Ed... have you ever been dancing?"

"Ed dances all the time."

"No what I mean is... " Faye shook her head, smiling. "Nevermind, we're going to have fun tonight."

"YAY! Ed likes to have fun!"

Faye nodded and glanced out the window. Space was so quiet. So peaceful. And yet, so empty. Much like her life and her memories were. She blinked back tears and guided her spacecraft down toward the surface to where the party was. She landed it skillfully and jumped out with Ed who had already began running ahead of her, red hair billowing wildly about.

They entered the tall building and rode the elevator to the top floor. The music grew louder and louder as they ascended in the tall, glass tube and Ed pressed her face against the clear walls.

"We're so high up..."

"We're almost there Ed. Come on..." She tugged on the young girl and pulled her beside her. Ed tried to not fidget as she stood there beside Faye. She bounced on her toes lightly - somehow along the way she had lost the shoes Faye had given her - and twiddled her fingers. Faye's grip was firm upon her arm but would prove futile once the doors to the elevator opened.

Ed's eyes widened at the sight before her. A large, decorative room full of people, dancing wildly to swing music. Ed's smile grew broader and even Faye herself felt somewhat happy at the prospect of having some fun. Spike of course would have never approved since they were in the middle of a bounty but what he doesn't know won't hurt him, or herself. She let Ed go to frolock amongst the other people who were, oddly enough, all dressed in polka-dot outfits. Only Faye herself was different and that was fine by her. She liked to stand out, having all eyes on her - it made her feel special.

"Excuse me m'lady," said a young man dressed in a pinstripe suit. "May I have this dance?"

Faye smirked mischievously and took his proferred hand and followed him on the dance floor. Maybe, just maybe, space wasn't that empty afterall.
