lol Yeah... I was pretty underwhelmed, too. But I was underwhelmed by the last season, too. The only more positive thing about this season is that I don't want to kill Amy with a hammer anymore.
But the big conculsion of "The Doctor dies" was not that big at all. And the question? Is there anybody out there who didn't immediately know that the question hiding in plain sight is "Doctor who?"?
Well, I didn't. ;) But then again I didn't expect that it would be so meta... and I'm not sure if I like that.
I wasn't so overwhelmed with the fifth series at first either, but it grew a lot on me with a second viewing on DVD. And I didn't find neither this nor last series as unwatchable as the obnoxious fourth series or even the specials. I wasn't particularly suprised when RTD later admitted that he was suffering from burnout syndrom during that time...
I was pretty disappointed with this season too. I actually liked the latest episode, but it mostly just did what I expected without any surprises. I wouldn't call the season terrible (like parts of season 4 and the specials), but incredible mediocre, and therefore boring. :/
And in the end "boring" is probably even worse than just "bad". Because even when something is bad it can still entertain. Bot boring things not so much. Which is one of the reasons why I mind stories like the one about the gangers much more than... err... say "Journey's End" or something. That one was utter bollocks but at least time breezed by.
Absolutely. "Journey's End" is beyond silly, but at least you can laugh at it, while stuff like "Night Terrors" is just reheating yesterday's left-overs. Not particularly intersting. :/ At least nonsense like "Journey's End" is colourful and has a spark of life. Doesn't mean it's a good episode, but you're entertained.
I'd rather giggle immaturely about how bad Ten's regeneration scene is, than get bored to death by a rerun of the Almost People. :/
