A/N: Words can be hard to understand. Sometimes they're tricky. And sometimes they hurt.
Figurative Language
Jessica was never good at literature. Analyzing ancient stories written by dead people was not her forte. Luckily for her, Tiffany was pretty darn good at it.
“What can I say, I have a way with words.”
Jessica wanted to kiss that annoying smile off of Tiffany’s lips.
“Stupid figurative language. Why can’t they just say what they mean? No wonder someone always dies. So much misunderstanding could be eliminated if they just said that they god damn meant, plain and simple.”
Tiffany laughed at how frustrated Jessica was getting.
“Jessi, not every is so straightforward like you are. Plus it’s more romantic. Doesn’t ‘Shall I compare thee to a summer’s day’ sound nicer than “Hot damn, you are smoking’”.
Jessica grumbled in reply, turning her attention back to her homework.
“Okay, so would ‘You are love’ be a metaphor or personification?”
Tiffany spun her pencil in thought.
“Metaphor. Personification only applies if the object is given human-like qualities.”
Tiffany looked over at Jessica’s paper. “Hey! Metaphors aren’t even a part of the assignment.”
Jessica stared blankly at Tiffany. She leaned closer and kissed her cheek.
“I know. I was just thinking about you. Thank you for helping me, Love.”

Games Aren’t Always Fun
“First one to fall in love loses, okay?”
They are seventeen and Jessica is cruel.
Tiffany and Jessica are lying casually on Tiffany’s bed just like they do every Friday night.
Tiffany didn’t know why but Jessica’s statement made her cheeks burn and her throat dry.
Did Jessica mean in general? With each other? Did Jessica like someone? Did Jessica like her?
Tiffany gulps. “Easy. I’ll win in a heartbeat.”
Jessica turns to her and stares for a bit. Tiffany shifts her gaze away, unable to hold the eye contact.
“What if I told you that I already lost?”
Tiffany could feel Jessica’s breath inches away from her jaw. The room suddenly felt infinitely smaller.
Then, Jessica leans back and simply states, “ Just kidding.”
Tiffany feels her whole world collapsing in on her then and there.

Tides
I sat on the beach and stared at the sea as it raised a hand and waved goodbye to me.
“Jessi, let’s break up.”
If falling in love was like falling off a cliff just to float in an ocean, then falling out of it was like getting washed ashore on a deserted island. Tiffany was lost and the weight of her damp clothes left her weary and uncomfortable.
“W-what?”
Jessica’s ears rang. It was like a wave crashing onto her and she couldn’t breathe. She tried to come up for air but Tiffany kept pushing her down with her words.
“Our love has run dry. It’s time for us to move on.”
I’ll only weigh you down. I’ll only make you drown.
