I just sent out a lengthy email to a number of my friends in Texas. I decided to repost it here, because I've been meaning to say something about the current presidential races, and... given the energy I put into this message, I think it will suffice.
I hope you take the time to read it.

betrayed by the even more solipsist turn that the Libertarians took.
Rather than cynically opposing everything Bush did for political
reasons, like the Democrats, they simply stuck their heads in the sand
and pretended the outside world didn't exist.
What other option did we have? Really, given a libertarian idealism (note the lowercase L), our options are either 1) stick to our guns, literally, and physically oust the unconstitutional government which has grossly raped our Bill of Rights and desecrated every tenet of human decency and civil liberty, or 2) stick our heads in the sands out of fear that the Constitution which has so steadfastly protected libertarians for well over two centuries, has now been so hopelessly destroyed that we no longer have the confidence in openly opposing an unjust government.
Remember that the history of libertarianism is riddled with accusations of anarchy. The Shrub administration is not a healthy time to be vocally critical of the government ( ... )

The libertarians' "See?! See?! This is what happens when you meddle outside your borders! If we all want to be safe, we will sever all foreign entangelements NOW" is the attitude I'm talking about. We're in a brutal world. It sucks. And I agree that our country gets way too involved in external affairs.
But you can't just hide from it and hope it goes away.
That's the head-in-sandyness I was talking about.

Jon Stewart sums up my opinion on America's foreign policy pretty nicely.
