2011 In Review

Dec 31, 2011 16:04

2011 has been a good year, and here's the survey to prove it:

1. What did you do in 2011 that you'd never done before?: Got engaged, went to Iceland

2. Did you keep your new years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year?: Not really something I do

3. Did anyone close to you give birth?: Cathryn did, just the other day. Dione at work did, too

4. Did anyone close to you die?: My grandmother did, as did my dear dog

5. What countries did you visit?: Aside from brief transits through Singapore and Norway, I was in Finland, Estonia, Sweden and Iceland

6. What would you like to have in 2012 that you lacked in 2011?: Not really sure, to be honest

7. What date from 2011 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?: I'd have to say my birthday, September 18. Helsinki turned it on perfectly for us, and to wrap up in beautiful Estonia was just unforgettable

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?: Getting engaged

9. What was your biggest failure?: Not really caring enough about things I should've, and caring too much about irrelevant things

10. Did you suffer illness or injury?: Flu, and a cold

11. What was the best thing you bought?: Take your pick where the European trip was concerned, although for obvious reasons one argument would be the wedding rings

12. Whose behavior merited celebration?: Everyone's

13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?: Nobody in particular

14. Where did most of your money go?: The trip, pretty much

15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?: Europe, definitely. The whole engagement and wedding thing is less tangible still, but it will happen

16. What song will always remind you of 2011?: "Jack Sparrow". That's one of the best things I've heard in ages

17. Compared to this time last year, are you happier or sadder?: Happier. It's been a good year

18. What do you wish you'd done more of?: I always say "socialising with people", but it never helps me to do it

19. What do you wish you'd done less of?: Thinking

20. How did you spend Christmas?: With Mum's side of the family only, which was a nice change

22. Did you fall in love in 2011?: I already was

23. How many one-night stands?: None

24. What was your favorite TV program?: This year's instalment of "Underbelly" was great, as well as "Sherlock", which I've now re-watched as well as seeing with Estonian subtitles in part

25. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?: I wouldn't say so, no

26. What was the best book you read?: Jasper Fforde's "Thursday Next" series, the first three of which I've just read. The man is insanely talented

27. What was your greatest musical discovery?: Not a fresh discovery, but Sigur Ros was a real revelation this year. Solefald turns out to be quite amazing, too

28. What did you want and get?: The best holiday ever

29. What did you want and not get?: More time overseas

30. What was your favorite film of this year?: I wouldn't have thought so at the time, but probably "Midnight in Paris". Woody Allen's still got it

31.What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?: I turned 26, and spent the day wandering through beautiful Helsinki, before taking the ferry to Tallinn and collapsing of exhaustion at Krista's family's home

32. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?: Not having to sort out more visa stuff at the end of it

33. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2011?: Not sure I had one

34. What, Who kept you sane?: The wonderful people I know and their ability to manufacture good times without any warning

35. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?: Can't think of any

36. What political issue stirred you the most?: The European debt business, particularly the way the media has almost certainly made it worse by talking it up

37. Who did you miss?: Nobody too much

38. Who was the best new person you met?: Some of the newer people at work. Darshana's a great friend already, for example

39. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2011: That living childhood dreams is absolutely worth it
