I had fun making a fanmix as a teaser for my first big bang, so I figured I'd do one for "Sanctuary" as well, which will go live tomorrow. Just like last time, I'm just posting songs and lyrics, no explanation for why they fit. I quickly discovered that my musical tastes...don't lend themselves quite as easily to this fic as they did to "Picture Perfect." So while a few of the choices were obvious for me, others you may have to squint a little bit for, so to speak.
One.
Hold On, Hold On ~ Neko Case The most tender place in my heart is for strangers
I know it's unkind, but my own blood is much too dangerous
Hanging around the ceiling half the time
Hanging around the ceiling half the time
Compared to some I've been around
But I really tried so hard
That echo chorus lied to me with its:
"Hold on, hold on, hold on, hold on"
In the end I was the mean girl
Or somebody's in-between girl
Now it's the devil I love
And that's as funny as real love

El Tango Roxanne/
The Show Must Go On ~ Moulin Rouge! Soundtrack
Roxanne,
You don't have to put on that red light.
Walk the streets for money,
You don't care if it's wrong or if it is right.
Roxanne,
You don't have to wear that dress tonight.
Roxanne,
You don't have to sell your body to the night.
His eyes upon your face.
His hand upon your hand.
His lips caress your skin.
It's more than I can stand.
Why does my heart cry,
Feelings I can't fight,
You're free to leave
but just don't deceive me
and please believe me when I say
I love you.
Another hero,
Another mindless crime,
Behind the curtain,
In the pantomime.
On and on
Does anybody know
What we are living for?
Whatever happened
We leave it all to chance.
Another heartache
Another failed romance.
On and on
Does anybody know
What we are living for?
The show must go on.
The show must go on.
Outside the dawn is
breaking on the stage.
That holds our final destiny.
The show must go on.
The show must go on.
Inside my heart is breaking,
My makeup may be flaking,
But my smile still stays on.
The show must go on.
The show must go on.
I'll top the bill
I'll earn the kill
I have to find the will
to carry on.
On with the, on with the,
On with the show.
Three.
The Ghost of You ~ My Chemical Romance I never said I'd lie and wait forever
If I did we'd be together now
I can't always just forget her
But she could try
At the end of the world
Or the last thing I see
You are
Never coming home
Never coming home
Could I?
Should I?
And all the things that you never ever told me
And all the smiles that are ever ever...
Ever get the feeling that you're never
All alone and I remember now
At the top of my lungs in my arms she dies
She dies
Four.
Body Below You ~ Mirah There's a story I could tell
When the cold wind starts to blow
Like a whisper in the night
From a friend that you know
It says, "Keep holding on
To my body below
Forsake me not,
Don't ever leave me alone"
There was a time when the sun
Gave its life to the trees
And the air it smelled sweeter
For the honey and the bees
The ocean rolled salty
And wild and free
The fruit swelled and ripened
And burst with their seeds
But what starts with desire
Can turn into need
The chest gets all tight
Like it's got some disease
What burns in the fire
Just ends up as coals
What floats on the water
Can sink like a stone
Now i want to believe
Every word that you say
I want you to need me
To not go away
Have trust in the nighttime
And faith in the day
To walk on the water
Be never afraid
Can you bear it upon you?
My love has gone under
Above all the stars
Have forgotten to glow
But if you keep holding on to
My body below you
I'll warm you and keep you
From feeling alone
Warm you and keep you from feeling alone
Five.
Come As You Are ~ Nirvana Come as you are, as you were
As I want you to be
As a friend, as a friend
As a known enemy
Take your time, hurry up
Choice is yours, don't be late
Take a rest as a friend
As an old
Memory, yeah
Come dowsed in mud, soaked in bleach
As I want you to be
As a friend, as a friend
As an old
Memory, yeah
And I swear that I don't have a gun
No, I don't have a gun, no, I don't have a gun
Six.
Cold War ~ Janelle Monae So you think I'm alone
But being alone’s the only way to be
But when you step outside
You spend life fighting for your sanity
This is a cold war
You better know what you’re fighting for
If you wanna be free
Below the ground's the only place to be
Cause in this life
You spend time running from depravity
This is cold war
You better know what you’re fighting for
Bring wings to weak and
Bring grace to the strong
May all evil stumble as it flies of the world
All the tribes come and the mighty will crumble
We must brave this night and have faith in love
I'm trying to find my peace
I was made to believe there's something wrong with me
And it hurt my heart
Lord have mercy ain't it plain to see
This is the cold war
Do you know what you’re fighting for

Confessions ~ City and Colour I've been up for days, trying to find a way to write my confession down,
Seems every line I writes amiss, at least this I'll admit,
For what I've done I am not proud,
But there's no need to pretend, no need for innocence,
I've got to be honest now.
My verdict has come in, it says I'm guilty for my sins this time,
I thought I could escape, but then I finally felt the weight of my crimes.
It's passion, it's not love, infatuation never ends up right,
At least I won't be alone tonight,
'Cause I don't want to be alone tonight.
The prosecution rests with convincing evidence,
Well, it seems I've been deceived,
So now I stand alone and wait for the first stone to be cast upon me.
My verdict has come in, it says I'm guilty for my sins this time,
I thought I could escape, but then I finally felt the weight of my crimes,
This is passion, it's not love, infatuation never ends up right,
At least I won't be alone tonight,
'Cause I don't want to be alone tonight.
