Music History

I like thinking about the social and cultural significance of popular music, but I can only read so many articles that tell me that, because I like Art Rock and don't like Disco, I'm a homophobic racist.  I kind of have to roll my eyes at the whole affair.

That's not why you're a homophobic racist.

Indeed. That has more to do with my extensive screeds about lesbian Canadians.

You know, I understand your plight with respect to Disco. I had my own problems coming to terms with Rap, and more recently with the Blues. I figured it would be a natural fit since I already appreciate Soul, Rock, and Hymns. But it's proving a difficult nut to crack. I've worn my way through dozens of best of lists, and hours of Pandora, yet I've only found six Blues songs I actually enjoy.

I'm actually starting to come around on Disco. Apparently what most of us think of as Disco (such as the BeeGees) is more like the Bush version of Grunge music.

I have a hard time with Blues too. There needs to be something to distinguish it from every other Blues song, since the structure is so standardized.
