a question for any cyclists

Dec 17, 2007 06:59

I've started cycling, am doing roughly 12km's each way - at a slowish clip - every second day.

At what stage should it start getting easier and/or faster to the point where 50 year old men on bikes don't keep overtaking me?

(its a serious question btw.  a month?  a year?  it just feels like I should be making more progress, faster!)

Well, how long have you been cycling for?
You should start noticing a bit of improvement after about 3 weeks - a month, I would imagine, but you certainly wouldn't be Lance Armstrong by any measure (Not that you'd want to be, he only has one testicle). It also might help to take more than one day off, occasionally, to give your body a bit more time to rest and repair itself fully.

been doing it a little over 2 weeks, so hopefully 3/4 weeks should be the crossover zone :)

re the water, I learnt that the hard way! Now I pack water and fruit/snacks just in case.

Dude, things are getting weird. I've been 100% sober for nearly 90 days (that might not sound impressive until you know my previous record since the age of maybe 11 years old was a week, at best), I'm eating well, walking, cycling. I'm even on the cusp of quitting smoking - haven't nailed it cold turkey yet, but I can feel its close.

FUCKED UP!
