Michael Jackson
What with all the eulogizing of Michael Jackson this week, I can't help but put down my own thoughts.
When I was a small child, I saw the music video for "Thriller". It scared the fucking bejeezus out of me. In fact, with maybe two or three exceptions, the very sight of Michael Jackson ever since that day has always creeped me out more than my capacity to manipulate words can express. For the better part of the past 25 years, that man has done nothing but put me off him.
I'm not glad he's dead; I don't hate the man. It's not for me to say whether he was a good person or not. I don't mourn him; I was definitely not a fan, no matter how many people thought I should be. What I am, however, is seriously disturbed by seeing his modern-era creepshow zombie-like visage everywhere I look. If you're truly mourning the death of Michael Jackson, my condolences. But don't you think the least you could do is put up pictures of him where he still looks like a human being, and not like the half-rotted mummified monster head from his 2002 Halloween special? Jesus!
