Perks of growing up in Hollywood...honeywestFebruary 23 2005, 05:42:17 UTC
I have a funny Gene Wilder story, my friend theolive who I have been actual friends with since we were children, was obsessed with him when we were teen agers ( about 13) and one day we snuck onto the 20th Century Fox Lot where he and Mel Brooks worked. We actually met Mel Brooks, who was more than kind to us, as we camped outside his office, Gene was out of town. A few years later when I was a high school senior, we went back (legitimately) to see a screening, and snuck back to their offices, we each stole the name plate out side there door, she took Gene's and I took Mel's! I had glued inside my locker in college forever, but do not know what became of it? I am pretty sure she still has her's...

Ok, Im jealous now-you got to meet Mel Brooks and perform petty theft! That is hilarious, gawd it sounds like you two had a lot of fun. Maybe she'll pop in here and let us know if she still has the name plate. :)

Hi-I CANNOT find the bloody nameplate! Damn! I'm fairly certain that it went "far, far away" when my father basically threw all my stuff into storage many years ago-VERY unfortunate

Well if its still in storage, there is still hope? Great stories, you were very lucky-I dont think letters are mundane at all.
I always find it miraculous when I "meet" people who still have friends from grade school, my mom was an army brat and we moved a lot-not to mention, these days noone stays in one place. Its good to have old friends. :)
It's a wonderful film...I saw it when I was about 12, a year or so after it came out; I had no trouble getting into this second-run theatre in Hollywood to see it, even with the "R" rating. And it certainly has loads of "shits", etc...not to mention outrageous sexual jokes-but as with "YF", I just didn't get virtually any of them, that's how naive I was! Of course I knew they were "nasty", but that's it. Heh.
Anyway, Gene has a wonderful part in it. And for all it's profanity, etc. it really is an incredibly good-natured, sunny movie--I hope you like it!
Thats the great thing about those movies, even if you are too young to get it, there are still visually interesting and the physical/slap stick (remember the scenes btwn the Igor and blind man?) comedy alone will keep you laughing. If blazing saddles is anything along the lines of YF I will love it.
