Hmm. Now that I'm slightly more sensible, lets see if I can actually articulate what I've been thinking about.

Yes, I'm made somewhat uncomfortable by Lewis's views on femeninity and masculinity as well. It is more explicitely laid out in That Hideous Strengtht in a passage I suspect will make you insensibly angry. (Although I think you'll enjoy the rest of the book ( ... )

As am I, although my reaction to them is complicated (as is my reaction to most things involving gender...), and because I love the rest of Lewis so much I'm usually willing to pass by the things that make me uncomfortable.

And yes, That Hideous Strength has considerably more gender-uncomfortable stuff. It doesn't usually bother me significantly in Perelandra but it does usually bother me in That Hideous Strength. (I don't think it's just limited to a single passage, either...). I hope, karakael, that animate_mush is right that you'll enjoy it anyways, but I am kind of apprehensive about it.

I'm definitely looking forward to reading the rest of the book, and as you said, this is probably just a hump to be gotten over.

Since I've been thinking about innocence as a concept a lot recently, its been neat seeing Lewis's take on it. Since we're not at the end yet, I still feel like I don't have the proper words and concepts to discuss the topic fully, but we're getting there!
