I want to move out of my present place. Commutes to work and my social life are just too long. I believe I'd be happier closer to both. I also believe that I'd be happier owning rather than renting, but I'm not sure that the place (both the location and the unit) that is right for me now will be right for me 5 years from now. The technical name for people like that is "wow, what a dick."

In my experience, procrastinating on buying isn't a good idea. How much time before you need to renew your lease?

I need to renew my lease by the end of this month. The lease expires on March 1st. I'm not going to buy before then. I've been procrastinating on buying for about the past year. :)

Report the asshole, he definitely deserves it.

Renew your lease for six months and buy, buy, BUY!

And as you renew your lease, tell the landlord that you're unhappy that dickwad downstairs won't let you park in the driveway like you hear you're allowed to. Suggest that this discourages you from continuing to be a tenant.

PS: I will have time for a lengthier and more thoughtful commentary some time when I have internet more at the ready. Or you could phone Oelkers House of Pie-- have I given you the number?

I think that when you actually do something, it may graduate to actually aggressive. I highly recommend reporting him. Actually, I'd be tempted to talk to everyone else and then shovel his car in. But I am filled with hate.

I tend to lean towards buying if you're going to be someplace for 3 years or longer, and this may be a good time to buy. Certainly if you have a 6 month time frame you could look at both rentals and sales in your area.... I find that with housing, one tends to form an emotional attachment to a place during the search process which might help you resolve the issue.

Do you have an idea of where you want to buy? If you're worried about winding up in the wrong neighborhood again, then you're probably not ready. However, it's an excellent time to buy right now... if I didn't already own a place, I'd buy. So if you know what you want, then go for it!
