Housing Resolution for the New Year

Dec 31, 2008 10:12

I spent much of Monday and yesterday diving into the intricacies of mortgage options and my own personal finances. The answers I came up with are that now is not the time for me to buy. First, and most importantly, I think it would be a stretch to my monthly finances to buy the kind of place I'd want to buy in the location I want to be. I want to ( Read more... )

HUGS. Congratulations on getting the decision made! I know you've been thinking about it for a long time, and it must be a huge relief to have decided something, even if it means giving up something that you've really wanted. It sounds like this is definitely the right choice for you right now. Good luck on the hunt for a new rental place!

Thanks! It was stressful to make, and it is a relieve that it's done. I'm sure the hunt for a new place will go fine, it's the move I'm worried about!

It sounds like the sensible course, if a bit heartwrenching.

Beacon Hill is looooovely. JP is tricky to get to, but the neighborhood has great sass and charm. Certainly, a high concentration of folks live in the Davis/Porter/Inman area and you can find some gems in terms of housing...

Best of luck!

You've nailed the reasons those are my top places to live. Out of curiousity what makes JP hard to get to? Being in a more visitable location is high on my list of priorities. Is it simply being on the orange line?

For me, the trickiness revolves around navigation in that area - you have to take the Jamaica Way to the Riverway to the Arborway... However, the neighborhoods of Roslindale and JP are absolutely gorgeous. Fun multi-floor homes, access to the Arnold Arboretum, fun restaurants...

*hugs* Sometimes renting really is the right decision. Especially in a place like Boston. I admire you for making the right decision for yourself so thoughtfully.

I loved living on Beacon Hill. You DEFINITELY don't want a car if you're there, though.

I have a feeling much purging of possessions will occur if I move to Beacon Hill!

I'm so proud of you for sorting this out-- I know it was a painful few days as you got right down to the decision, but now you can hopefully get psyched about a new neighborhood!

And you've talked about Beacon Hill in wishful tones for SO long now that I really think it's worth trying it, if you're up for it. I know it'll involve grieving your car, but I think you will get through that, and you'll quickly become a fan of trying out lots of different cars with Zipcar.

Thanks for all your handholding over the phone!

I will definitely look at Beacon Hill, even if it means much purging of stuff!
