An Admission

Yes, in a fit of fangirliness this week, I ordered navy blue Converse All Star low tops. I expect to receive them tomorrow but they're already causing me aggravation.

Dear Converse.com

I recently ordered new converse sneakers and I'm looking forward excitedly to receiving them. I've been tracking the package and tonight I arrived home to find the first delivery attempt notice from UPS.

To my dismay, the infonotice was checked "Sender requested a signature to confirm delivery" which means that the package must be handed to a person. There is no one at home during the day since I am a single professional who is, luckily, employed (please note: the world is no longer made up only of husbands who work and wives who stay at home and can receive packages). If you had not requested a signature to confirm delivery, I could have signed the infonotice and the package would have been left on my porch.

Instead of having the package left for me at home, I've had to change the delivery location to my office where someone can receive the package. Not only does that interrupt my work day, inconvenience my coworkers and mean I have to carry a bulky package home on the subway, but it also costs me money. UPS now charges a $4.00 fee to change a delivery location!

If I had not chosen to have it delivered to my office, I could have called for it at the UPS office, and the last time I did that, it took me an hour to get there. Getting to the office while it's open would require me leaving work early too.

This problem could have easily been avoided if you had not requested signature to confirm delivery. I know the risks involved in having packages delivered to my home and left on my porch. I'm willing to take that risk, otherwise, I wouldn't have ordered from you.

If you're going to insist on a package being delivered to a person, you could have at least warned me of that while I was making my purchase. If I had been told that a signature was required, I could have either listed my office as a delivery address or requested that it be sent via U.S. Postal service. In the latter case, the package would have been held at the post office, which is not an hour drive from my home.

It has been a while since I've been so unhappy with an internet purchase even before I've received it. I don't think I'll be ordering from Converse.com again.

Best Regards,

Karakara
