This morning on NPR, I heard this story about what the use of pronouns say about how we're interacting with people. I just tried playing with the power dynamics of pronouns in an email to a direct report, and wow does it seem to work

I really enjoyed that story too, and the first thing I thought was, "I wonder if I write to my client as the more powerful or less powerful person?" (I suspect less powerful.) And then, "I wonder what the stats on my tax mailing list would be." I don't believe GuyWhoHasToAlwaysBeRight ever uses I on that list.
