Now I have two questions. The first is if the lj cut text is part of some liturgy. The second, and more important since I can't hope google to answer it, is if your read/liked the book with the same title. I'm a total Heinlein fan since my preteen years, but I read Stranger in a strange land as a grown up and totally fell in love with it.

Although I have read Stranger In A Strange Land, I'm not as enamoured of it as some folks. My favorite Heinlein book is Have Spacesuit, Will Travel. I have MAJOR issues with a lot his politics and even the sexual utopian-ism of his later works. The title was also a reference to the original quote which was said by Moses (and referenced, with misattritubtion) by Tevye in Fiddler On The Roof.

The cut text is part of the Shehecheyanu, which is recited on the First night of Channukah.

I fell in love with Heinlein by reading "The Moon Is A Harsh Mistress" in Italian as a tween. I read it so many time I knew it almost verbatim. He's rightwing, a weapon-freak, racist and hates mathematicians (don't ask), but he likes cats and sex.
It's not that I even like Stranger so much, it's just so different from anything else.

As for the quotation, the really bad thing about raising kids religion-free is that they don't learn any of these rituals, which is a pity.
