Come As You're Not 2012-The Legend Returns!

THE CHELSEA DRUGSTORE CORDIALLY INVITES YOU:
to karaokegal's Sixth “Come As You’re Not” fanfic costume party.
Who is invited: YOU! If you're seeing this posted anywhere on your friends list, linked on Twitter or Facebook, Dreamwidth or Tumblr or any other social media. As long as you have a platform from which to post and link a story. Even if you've never heard of me, please come to the party anyway.
I’m inviting you all to write a fanfic as someone other than yourselves.
Costume examples:
If you’re known for linear narrative, go poetic and out of sequence.
Are you a fluff-bunny? Write angst. (And if you're known for developing hives at the hint of fluff, take a few Benedryl and write some.)
Have you said you can’t/won’t do smut? Go down and dirty.
Smutstress extra-ordinaire? Do something so gen a five-year-old can read it.
Write for a pairing you don’t believe in, preferably one that violates your OTP. (Or write threesome fic for your OTP and the biggest threat to their relationship.)
Do a story for a fandom you’ve never written in. Think of all the great fandoms that have cropped up in the past two years. Any fandom (movie, tv show, play, book, literature) is welcome. Come on guys....Avengers, Teen Wolf, all the new White Cock, Migratory Slash Fandoms you may have embraced since 2010. Just waiting for you to try your hand.
Crossovers! Take an old stand and mix it up with another one...or something you've never crossed with before. Maybe even something you've never watched.
Write for an old favorite that you missed the first time around. Go back in time to your old loves that you just never had the chance to write for. The first ship of your heart...before you even know what a ship was? Favorite books of your childhood? A movie that you're always trying to get people to watch and finding out they never even heard of it?
Be a very kinky fan, the kind you don't take home to mother. Look over your f-lists Kink Bingo cards and pick a kink you'd never be cause dead writing much less doing. Write a fic for it.
Go Alternate Universe. Think you've said everything you can possibly say about your OTP? Make them pirates. Or high school students. Or Musical Comedy stars.
Bi-fictionality is HIGHLY encouraged. If you've never written slash-now's the time. If you're a true-blue slash fan and totally squicked out by the idea of HET---GO FOR IT!
This may be the perfect time to face your worse squicks-Bring on the age-discrepancy, hetero, wing-fic! Incest? Rimming? Contact lens sharing? Nom, nom, nom!
Write in a style you claim to despise. Songfics, deathfics, script format, second person emo meandering? All welcome as long as it’s something that you would never be caught dead doing in a million, billion, years.
Base a fic on a cliché you’ve been railing against.
Write a purposely sucky story and create your own MST for it. Or pair up with someone and get them to do the MST for you. (I know this is kind of retro as MSTing has gone out of fashion, but you will be hero forever if you do it.)
RPS/RPF are more than acceptable, especially if you've gone on record saying that RPS/RPF is nasty, bad, icky, and not of the Lord. Hell, go ahead and throw yourself-insert into the mix...AS LONG AS YOU'VE NEVER DONE IT BEFORE.
For added costume appeal-create a userpic that is totally NOT YOU!
No word restrictions. Elaborate costumes (long fics), masks thrown over the face (drabbles), and anything in between are fine.
Check out the parties from 2006 and 2007 , 2008, 2009, and 2010 for examples. (And remember it's never too late to comment on a fic.)
RSVP is nice, but not necessary.
There will be a posting window of seven days starting on October 31, so you needn't feel rushed to post and read everything in 24 hours.
I’ll open the post as soon as it turns October 31st my time, which means the UK can start partying bright and early. Post the story in your own LJ, Dreamwidth or AO3 and put the link in a comment.
There will be an A03 collection opened. I'll make a special announcement for that and I'd encourage everybody to post their old Come As You're Not fics. Both as way to keep them archived in the event of LJ going bye-bye and to get potential new readers. (And if it drums up interest in this year's party, that's not a bad thing either.)
In deference to the economy, we're going pot luck this year. If you're so inclined to bring a tasty dish as well as your costume, you'll be encouraged to announce that along with your costume posting.
BRING FRIENDS: Please, please, please pimp this post on your F-list, Dreamwidth, Twitter, Tumblr and any other blogs or media platforms you frequent, but NOT in any of the fiction communities. This is not an official Ficathon, Challenge, or Exchange. It’s just a party!
If you're looking for inspiration, don't forget about Song Lyric Prompt-a-Day from 2009. I'm still in process of re-uploading all the music, so if you need a link to a particular song that's not there, let me know. Extra candy corn will be awarded to anyone who uses a Song-Lyric Prompt.
And remember, even if you don't wear a costume, you're more than welcome to attend as a reader. (And bring friends.) This MAY be the last year I do this, so let's make it a good one.
