We'll watch it at some point. I have vivid memories of Bernstein's Concerts For Young People on TV so I've been avoiding it. He was such a titanic presence in my life, both of my parents being classical music enthusiasts.
I don't remember watching the Young People's Concerts in real time, but back when we were renting actual DVDs from Netflix, we went through all the concerts (at least the ones on the DVDs) that way.
I also watched the PBS American Masters show on Bernstein some years back.
I think you'll enjoy the movie. Everything about it is absolutely gorgeous.
Belated comment! I had a milder response than you did. For one thing, I kept getting distracted by Bradley Cooper's distinctive blue eyes. The acting was top notch all around. But the movie did such a disservice to his wife; Felicia was an actress, activist, with her own life away from Leonard's. She wasn't pining and downtrodden. Also there was so much more to him, even though I'm glad they portrayed his bisexuality in such a down to earth way.
Like Felicia, Lenny was also an activist. While writing this comment, I actually remembered there had been a satirical article about a fundraiser the Bernsteins held for the Black Panthers. I found it: a long essay by Tom Wolfe in New York Magazine, "Radical Chic: That Party At Lenny's". It's a hit job but also a fascinating microcosm of the time. Sorry to go off on a tangent. You can find the article on the website but it's easier to read the Wikipedia entry.
It's been some kind of forever but I honestly don't even remember Bradley on Alias. It's like there's a void in my memory because I remember nearly everything and everyone else on the show, at least vaguely, for the first few seasons, but Will? I can sort of remember him as a character but not as Bradley, if that makes sense.
I've always held onto those memories because of the shipping. Everytime BC does something that's HUGE like Guardians of the Galaxy or A Star Is Born, my brain goes....naaaaahhhh....If anyone was going to come out of Alias as a MEGASTAR, it should have been Michael Vartan or Jennifer Garner (who came out a big star, but NOT this level of success, prestige and power.)
That makes sense, too. Jennifer has a career but nothing like Bradley's. I can't even remember seeing Michael in a lot outside of the show. But then Hollywood can be strange.
