*MASTERPOST*

This wasn’t anything like Jun had expected from this case when he was assigned to it. Nothing seemed to go the way it was supposed to go. First teaming up with that Light Watch agent which resulted in constant fighting and breaking the rules in the worst way possible (though you wouldn’t hear him complain about that too much) and now their mole from the Dark Watch turned out not to be from the Watch at all. He and his partner were still trying to figure out their next move, but much to both their annoyance they couldn’t agree on it once again.

“We should follow him a bit longer, find out a bit more about how and why he is meeting with that man.” Jun said, keeping his voice low since they were still outside and didn’t want any unwanted attention. Ninomiya on the other hand didn’t seem to care about that as he spoke loudly.

“That will take way too long. Let’s just arrest Haishin and interrogate him. I’m sure he will tell us everything we need.” Jun knew the other man was probably right about this. They had enough evidence to arrest their suspect and take him down to the office to get everything out of him, but there was still something bothering him.

“But what about that Aiba? What if he doesn’t tell or what if he doesn’t know anything about that man? We might lose track of him if we take him in right now.”

“There is always a way to track people down, especially if you have their name. It wouldn’t be difficult to find that man again, even if Haishin doesn’t know anything.” Ninomiya smirked and gave him an “are-you-really-that-stupid” look. Jun rolled his eyes.

“I know but what if his source into the Light Watch suddenly disappears? He would get suspicious and probably hide everything. Even if we track him down we would have nothing. I think we should report to our bosses, see what they think about it. I have a feeling this case is a lot bigger than we think it is…” Ninomiya thought about it for a moment before he agreed. There wasn’t much they could do right now anyway as their suspect was probably at his home already and neither of them felt like bursting into his house to arrest him. Soon after their ways parted as they went to their own office.

The room was quite dark, Matsumoto could barely see the man in front of him. Of course it was late in the night but that wasn’t a reason to keep this room so dark. His boss on the other hand seemed to like it as only a couple of candles were lit to give the room just enough dim light to see each other.

“So there isn’t a Dark Watch officer involved at all?” Matsumoto nodded. He had just told his boss everything he knew about this case. His boss smiled.

“Interesting. Of course I already knew none of us was involved but still... A normal person who buys information from the Light Watch, I wonder what he is planning…” He grabbed his black cup filled with coffee and slowly took a sip, his eyes in Matsumoto’s direction but probably not seeing him as he was lost in thoughts. Matsumoto also wondered what this Aiba was planning to do with the information he brought from the Light Watch, but there was something that was bothering him even more. This man apparently knew about the secret Watches which could be far more troublesome than just some useless information about the Light Watch. Or maybe the information wasn’t as useless as they thought it was? Just when he wanted to speak out his thoughts, the phone on the big wooden desk rang, getting his boss out of his daze. With a quick look at the small screen the man smirked before he picked up.

“Ah Seitou-sama. I suppose you just heard everything too?” Takeo-sama kept looking straight into Jun’s eyes while he was talking to the head of the Light Watch. On the other side of the line Ninomiya was probably sitting in the same position as he was right now, watching his boss talk through the phone.

“Yes, very troublesome indeed but do you really think that is necessarily? They already know? How… I see. Well, we don’t have much choice then. Yes, I’ll inform Matsumoto about it right away. A good day to you too.” His boss put down the phone and sighed deeply before he looked at Jun again.

“The two of you will be accompanied from tomorrow on. The Border Watch wants to keep an eye on this case, they think the Treaty is threatened and want to make sure the balance is kept.” So Jun’s feelings had been right. If the Border Watch was joining in this investigation it was a lot bigger than anyone could have expected at the beginning. Otherwise he wouldn’t be set on this case as he wasn’t experienced enough for it.

“Look, Jun I’ll be honest with you. I don’t like it where this case is going and I want you to make sure you don’t screw this up. Make sure you report everything back to me, every slight change even if it seems unimportant.”

“Of course sir.” Jun was relieved by the words, it meant he wasn’t pulled off the case. Maybe he had gained enough trust already or maybe it was just a simple case of no other officers available for it. He didn’t care, he was glad he could still prove himself he was worth every minute of the time the Dark Watch had spend in him. He would make sure he would play a big role in solving it, if possible the biggest role of all even though that would be hard with Ninomiya’s breath in his neck. Just thinking about that was a wrong move as it sent shivers over his body, recalling that moment just a few days ago. Somehow just thinking about that made him annoyed in a way he couldn’t explain. He didn’t even want to consider thinking about that selfish brat in the first place. If anyone would find out what they did, they would be in deep shit as it was considered as one of the highest crimes possible. He would prefer not to see that man ever again at this point but that was impossible seeing the case they were in and he had a feeling it was far from closed. He realized his boss had asked him something just in time.

“Do you know anything else than that other man’s name?”

“No sir, only his name. We are still thinking about our next move, whether we have to arrest that Light Watch worker or not in order to get to know more.” His boss nodded slowly.

“I’m sure you will think of the right way to move but we have to see what the Border Watch wants first. You look tired, go home and get some sleep. You will be expected tomorrow morning in the office of the Border Watch. Your partner will be there too.” Matsumoto stood up and bowed. After a proper greeting he left the office to get the desired sleep, but not before he got a cold shower to calm the nerves down that came up after his memory of that time with Ninomiya.

“Any idea who our babysitter might be?” Matsumoto asked Ninomiya while he looked around in the main hall of the Border Watch. It was a lot brighter than the main hall of the Dark Watch but less white than the one of the Light Watch. There were a lot of windows and Matsumoto wondered if that had something to do with the way the people over here worked. Keeping an eye on everything and everyone with a view which was as clear as possible, just like the clean and shining windows everywhere.

“No idea, but I do know I don’t like it here.” Matsumoto nodded in agreement. It was just too open over here for his liking and the way everyone looked at the two of them made him shiver. Just like everyone knew everything about the two of them, including every sin they had committed through their lives. When he spoke out his thoughts Ninomiya laughed softly.

“Oh, but they do know a lot about every Watch member. Not everything but enough to make sure the balance is kept and nobody crosses the line.” The somewhat bitter tone the older man used made Matsumoto wonder if he was speaking out of experience but before he could ask a voice interrupted him.

“Ninomiya-san, Matsumoto-san?” They both turned around when they heard someone calling their name. A man almost as tall as Jun freed himself from the crowd and came closer. He looked a bit older than the two of them and everything about him looked neatly styled, from his tight black suit to his perfectly styled brown hair. If it weren’t for his slopping shoulders and gentle face with round cheeks he would have been quite an imposing man. A perfect fit for the Border Watch you could say, as all the people inside it were slightly boring but perfect for keeping order and balance at the same time.

“Sakurai Sho, Border Watch. I’ll accompany you in your investigation. Yoroshiku onegaishimasu.”
