MASTERPOST

Sho woke up. It was still dark outside and he felt a bit chilly. Funny... It wasn’t that cold in the room. So, why those delicate shivers were running through his body? He looked to the left, where Aiba was supposed to be sleeping, but all he could see was an empty space. Sakurai felt something that resembled the stabbing of a little icy needle in his heart. He started looking for Masaki around the room desperately, but the bartender wasn’t there. For a moment, the newscaster was confused… Should he call for him out loud? Should he look for him? The silence in the room was too painful… Painful to the level of not being able to stand properly anymore...

- Masaki…? - He whispered, hoping to hear the bartender’s precious voice again. No response... He repeated it, a bit louder this time:

- Masaki?!

- You should be sleeping, Sakurai-san… - The bartender’s voice resounded out of nowhere. At that same instant, Sho’s body relaxed; it didn’t shake anymore and the piercing feeling had also disappeared. When the newscaster’s eyes got used to the dark, he saw Aiba sitting on the floor next to the bed with his arms wrapped around his knees. He looked as if he had been crying because his eyes were a bit swollen and tracks of tears were still visible. The newscaster sat next to him and asked, watching him closely:

- Were you crying?

- A bit.

- Could you tell me why?

- No.

Sakurai was worried. It was evident that Masaki didn’t trust him, reason why he kept answering questions in monosyllables. Was he really so naïve to believe that, after just one hot night he will be able to break that wall that Aiba was hiding behind? Sho sighed and tried once again:

- Does it happen to be connected with a person named Shin by any chance?

The bartender’s eyes widened.

- H-how… W-where… - He started to stammer.

- You were talking in your sleep, and that name came up. So, I just assumed that it meant something important to you.

- What did I say? Tell me, Sakurai-san… Exactly, what did I say?…

- You said “Don’t you ever leave me… Shin-chan…” and held me tighter…

Masaki was obviously astonished after hearing this. He was breathing heavily and just one, single tear ran down his cheek. A slide show of memories played in the back of his mind with a horrible force, filling his body and soul. However, he was surprised when he realized that it didn’t hurt as much as before. Did Sho's presence have something to do with this? He didn’t comprehend it, but he suddenly wanted to share all the pain he had kept in his heart for so long. He was looking at the floor and started his story…

~*~

Aiba Masaki was raised by his aunt - Ishikawa Akiko. He was an orphan; his mother died in a car accident when he was 6, and he never knew his father. Masaki was the only child in the family and, because his replacement mother was more interested in her career than in him, he was left alone. Since he was 8, he prepared meals, did the laundry, cleaned the house, and finished homeworks all by himself. His interaction with Akiko was slim to none. He only got to see her a few times, when she had a day off. But, even then, she didn’t pay any attention to him nor found the time to play with him. He was always alone, without any friends; he didn’t have time for those things. He was living in his own world, where no one bothered him, probably because children in his school didn’t pay attention to a little boy who kept disappearing right after classes. Things were going quite good until elementary school ended.

High school proved to be totally different. Everything was normal until the rest of the students noticed his dissimilarity. After a couple of weeks, Aiba started to be bullied. This time, it seemed as if his mere existence disturbed others. There were times when he would find dead rats in his locker and his notes torn in little pieces. This situation lasted for about half a year. During this time, Aiba never raised a hand to protect himself simply because he abhorred violence at all times no matter the cause.

During the second semester, a new student was transferred to the school, and everybody seemed to forget about Masaki for a while. Bullying the “new one” was always far more entertaining for the students. It didn’t last long though because the new boy didn’t allow them to harm him and fought back. He even became popular among collegians who wanted him to be their leader. With lack of target, they started to tease Aiba again, harder this time. He was even beaten once on his way home. He’ll never forget that day. It was cursed and blessed at the same time.

Masaki was coming back home as he was used to. Unexpectedly, two students from his school appeared out of nowhere right in front of him. He was all alone and couldn't find a way to escape. Suddenly, one of his pursuers threw a rock at him, which hit him in the head just above his ear.

- Hey! And where are you going? The dumpster is there! - Two boys laughed hard and threw another rock.

He felt dizzy and fell. Blood started to flow from his wounds, but that didn’t stop the torturers from attacking once more. They started to kick him. The only thing the poor boy could do was to cover his face. Shortly after, someone pulled the bullies off of him, and they escaped as soon as possible.

- You’re OK?

- Y-yes… It’s nothing… - Answered the wounded boy while looking at his saver. - Thank you…

- No problem... By the way, my name is Sawada Shin.

- I’m Ai…

- I know who you are. - The deliverer said with no interest in his voice. - I’ll let them know that they should leave you alone. I hate people who fight against their own team. You should go to the doctor. That wound doesn’t look nice… - Shin said and left Aiba by himself. He had some kind of aura around him, which made Masaki feel strange, a bit anxious, curious, and calm. The boy stood there until Sawada disappeared behind the nearest building. Then, he went back home.

Things at school changed almost immediately There were students who were still refractory and tried to bully Aiba when possible. Nonetheless, Shin made sure that these bullies would understand the situation. He was publicly appearing in unexpected places to show that his new friend was important to him. It was just an act, a cool and safe way to restore order in the school. In reality, they hardly ever spoke. They lived near each other and went home together but always in silence. Soon, all these things became a ritual. If any of them finished his classes earlier, they would wait for the other one in front of the building. Slowly, bit by bit, their friendship became stronger, and the brick wall created by their silence started to fall down piece by piece.

One day, Shin came to pick Masaki up and brought him to a river nearby.

- Shouldn’t we go to school?

- If you want to go, then just go. I want to stay here… I wanted to show you something.

Aiba looked at his friend and decided to stay. He had never missed one single day of school, so Aiba thought that a small truancy coming from him wouldn't harm anyone. He was extremely curious about what was it which Sawada wanted to show him. They sat on a bank, in silence, and observed the river, which flowed without any rush. Masaki wanted to ask how long they would stay like that, but he didn’t say a word. He just wanted to stay like this with his only friend. Suddenly, the water started to rush, creating quite rough little waves that were hitting the fringes in a wild dance. It lasted for about a few minutes and, as fast as it started to ruffle, it calmed down. It was strange. Aiba had asked about why did that phenomenon had taken place and what was its meaning, but Shin just remained silent. After a long while, he spoke:

- I have no idea why that thing is happening every now and then… But, what I do know is that this resembles our friendship.

- How…? - The older boy asked, looking carefully at his friend. Shin was more serious than usual. He sat closely beside Masaki and tried to put his thoughts in proper words. It seemed that he wasn’t able to though. Finally, he answered.

- We usually are like this, ne? - He said, pointing at the peaceful surface, but he was looking at his friend’s face with some strange sparks in his eyes. - Calm and quiet - he continued after a while. - But, sometimes I… I am feeling something like that river… Something that pushes me… Making my heart beat so fast and… I don’t know the reason…

Sawada wasn't making any sense, pausing after every sentence and slowly getting closer to Aiba.

- I’m sorry, Masaki… - This was the first time he called him by his first name. - I... - and he kissed him... gently, as if that boy were made from porcelain, not from flesh. Their lips touched, making their bodies shiver. The older boy didn’t move; he was in huge shock. Right after, Shin added some tongue, licking the inner part of Aiba’s lips, tasting him rapidly.

First kiss…

First touch…

First tear…

After that day, everything changed. They weren’t just regular friends anymore. They had become something more-lovers. It was crazy, forbidden, and tempting. At the same time, it was bringing them happiness. Of course, nobody knew about their relationship. They always tried to protect their secret relationship no matter what, which was hard at times given their blinding love and desire. However, for several beautiful weeks, everything was great. Aiba and his precious ‘Shin-chan’ spent almost every time together. Sawada seemed to be tired of the constant presence of the hyper and happy boy, but he never said a word. He was patient and always shut Masaki’s mouth with a kiss whenever he was talking too much. It seemed like this relationship would last forever… Unfortunately, they weren’t careful enough in the end. A certain day marked the beginning of their tragedy.

It was Sunday. The sun was shining, the wind was calmed and invited the leaves to dance… Aiba was free, but he had to wait a bit for his lover since Shin needed to take care of his older brother's problems. Masaki didn’t know any of this. Sawada always made sure not to trouble Aiba with his family issues. About noon, both boys met near Sawada’s mansion. The future bartender was really surprised by the size of the house, but he didn’t say a word because he was fully aware that Shin didn’t like being asked questions about his private life. Because of this, Masaki hadn't met any of his friend’s family members. He had heard the older brother’s name by accident just once. He didn’t mind the mystery because the most important thing for him was to know that Shin and him could be together. Nothing else mattered.

That time, the younger boy was mad. He was walking in back and forth and muttering something under his nose. It looked disturbing, and Aiba was worried. He wanted to calm him down. And, the only way he knew how was to kiss him like he always did, slowly, passionate, and desirable. Masaki put his hands on Shin’s shoulder and asked him, in that way, to stop. He looked at him and moved his lips closer to Sawada’s face. The younger one felt a hot breath on his cheek, waiting for the inevitable. Shortly after, he could also feel the gentle touch of thick fingers and a delicate kiss, which was more and more intense every passing minute. Aiba tasted good, a bit bitter like a dark chocolate, but good. Gradually, the taste started changing and becoming sweeter and sweeter to the point in which it now reminded him of white chocolate…

Both boys were insatiable. Promptly, Shin pressed Masaki against the wall and started to unzip his jeans, putting his hand inside of them and starting to squeeze Aiba’s hardening member little by little. It was hot and very arousing. The taller boy almost exploded from touching, wanting more and more, but that little voice in his head was yelling that they were in public and should stop. Unfortunately, it was impossible to stop Shin. He knelt and found a way to Masaki’s navel. It didn’t take him long to feel Sawada’s wet lips on his member. Sucking, licking, tasting… After a few exciting and tiring moments, when the younger boy finally tasted his lover’s juices, when Aiba came, they both heard a sound of braking glass…

- S-shin-chan… What are you doing with that… boy?!

- Mother…?

Those were the only words that have been said. The rest of the events that followed happened so quickly… Sawada was taken back home by force, and Masaki was thrown out with the prohibition to meet Sawada’s youngest son ever again. Shin’s parents made sure that they wouldn't see each other again. The younger boy was sent to a faraway boarding school. Was it the end? No Splitting them up would take more than that. Their love was stronger than anything, so Shin's parents were going to be forced to work as hard as possible if they wanted to succeed.

After several months, Shin wrote a letter to Aiba and asked him to come to Chiba, the place where Sawada’s new school was located in. The future bartender didn’t have to think it twice. He got into the nearest bus and, several hours later, he was facing his beloved man. They didn’t care about the people's reactions toward their actions. They kept hugging tightly in silence.
The reunion was perfect. It seemed like they loved each other even more. The separation had made their relationship stronger than before. After this meeting, Masaki moved to Chiba for good and transferred to Shin’s school. However, rumors about their relationship spread faster than thunder. Shortly after, the younger boy’s parents knew about this whole situation and came to Chiba. This time, things were different. Shin opposed to his family and said that he wouldn’t change simply because they couldn't accept his nature. He didn’t shout. He would listen to his parents' arguments calmly and repeat his statement over and over again. It was evident that this conversation was going nowhere. Therefore, Shin's parents left not without taking one last careful glance at Aiba. The boy stood still next to a window and didn’t say a word throughout the entire conversation.

When they were left alone, Masaki hugged his lover and wanted to comfort him. But, deep down in his heart, he knew that he was the reason of Shin’s family breakdown. He didn’t know that these were their last sweet moments together Aiba had a feeling, however, that things would become more complex for them. It was obvious that Shin’s family would do anything to separate them at any cost. He even feared that someone’s life could be put at risk because of this relationship. In this case, Masaki was certain that it would cost him his life. This time, he could really call himself a clairvoyant.

As he was walking, Masaki encountered the presence of four big men right in front of him. The future bartender was aware that he wouldn’t be able to escape. His fighting skills were tragic, so the only thing he could do was to wait for an inevitable death. Aiba put his books aside and stood still. Instantly, he felt the first punch in his stomach and fell down. His attackers were prepared to kill and, most probably, that was their aim. They were hitting him hard when someone jumped out of nowhere and got in the middle of the gang and Aiba. There was no time to think. Masaki and his saver ran away as fast as they could. They managed to hide in a small alley. The older boy realized that his rescuer was Shin.

- Are you OK?

- Yes, Shin-chan… I’m OK…

- Are you able to run?

- Yes, but…

- Then, run! I will stop them.

- But, Shin…

- Just run as fast as you can… Don’t mind me. Understood?

- But… - Aiba couldn’t say anything more because Sawada sealed his lips with a kiss and disappeared. Masaki stood up for a while and, then, he did as his lover asked him to. Seconds later, he was running with all of his might. After fifteen minutes, he stopped and looked behind. He wasn’t able to see his beloved man. The boy was wondering about what to do. After a while, he decided to go back and check whether Shin was OK or not. He was late… An ambulance was taking Sawada to the hospital. Sirens were drilling a hole in the taller boy’s heart. Time stopped…

Masaki was worried to death, but he didn’t know where his boyfriend was taken to. His family wouldn't reveal anything about him. It was to be expected since he represented an enemy to the family. In their eyes, he was the only one responsible for this situation. He was the pervert who used their youngest son to satisfy his own pleasures. They didn’t know that it was Shin who first kissed him Of course, none of this mattered anymore. Aiba could only think about finding a way to learn about Shin's health. After hundreds of humiliating phone calls, he was able to get information about Shin's condition. It was bad, but he would survive. The next information he received had to do with a restraining order against him. He was not to have any contact with his lover from now on.
Pain…

Tears…

Indifference…

Time was passing by as fast as the speed of light. Aiba quit school and did nothing but sit all day long in his room thoughtless and emotionless. How long has it been? A week? A month? A year? He had lost track of time. He looked like a ghost. Pale skin, dark circles under his eyes, considerable weight loss… But, the day he was waiting for arrived. Unexpectedly, surprising him to a level of disbelief, to the point of feeling his lungs close and faded breathing... a phone call from Shin happened.

- Masaki…?

-S-shin-chan? My goodness! SHIN! How are you? Are you OK? I missed you so much! I…

- Calm down… I missed you too. I’m sorry for not having called you earlier… They were watching me too closely… How are you?

- I’m… good. I think… - Aiba couldn’t hold his tears anymore. The sound of this voice was just too painful and too soothing at the same time. Masaki was sobbing and calmed down only when he heard his beloved's voice once again.

- Stop it, Maa-kun.

- Yes… - The older boy sniffed a few times and calmed down. After a while, silence was the only sound that could be heard between them. It was strangely intense. A few minutes later, Shin broke the muteness.

- You know that they won’t let us be together…

- I know…

- Do you love me?

- Of course I do!

- How much?

- Shin, why…

- Answer me, Masaki… Please…

- I love you more than my own life…

- Really?

- Yes…

- You know that I love you too… Very much… So much that it hurts… Promise me that we’ll always be together…

- I promise. Shin… Can I see you?

- Not now… In a few days… Masaki - Sawada added after a short pause. - Do you think that our souls are connected?

- I’m sure of it, Shin-chan…

- So, when we are reborn, we’ll meet again?

- Yes…

- Masaki… Do you want to die with me?

Aiba was in shock, but he was fully aware that they wouldn’t be able to escape from Shin’s parents. They couldn't be together in this life, so they needed to find a way to make their own peace.

- Shin… Take me with you, wherever you will go…

***

Sunday arrived with a crying sky. The sun was hiding behind thick clouds that resembled curtains. Two young boys were standing in an abandoned factory, looking at each other with immeasurable love in their eyes. The older one was afraid, but he knew that this was the only way to be with the love of his life forever. He moved closer and closed his eyes. The younger one stood still with a gun in his steady hand. He was pointing straight at his companion's head. Aiba closed his eyes, waiting for a kiss from the death…

- I’m sorry Masaki… I…

BANG!

The taller boy felt something wet on his face. When he opened his eyes, he could see drops of blood falling down from his face to his hands. After seeing this, Masaki turned to look at Shin straightaway only to witness the most terrifying image in his entire life. Shin was lying dead with a huge wound on his head.

- No!! Shin-chan!! You promised me! You promised to take me with you! Shin!! NO!!! - Masaki knelt beside his lover’s body, crying and holding it tight…

- Don’t leave me… Don’t you ever leave me! Shin-chan…

~*~

- I sat there till his body became cold… - Aiba didn’t shed any tear through the entire story.

Sakurai was shocked. He wasn’t aware that his new lover had encountered such a terrible and sad experience. Sho was speechless. He couldn’t find any words to express his feelings. The newscaster wanted to hug Masaki. But, at the same time, he was afraid of being rejected by the bartender. Perhaps, he didn't want to be held at that moment. How wrong he was! The younger man rested his head on Sho’s shoulder and kissed his neck gently. Then, he looked straight into Sakurai's eyes and whispered in his ear:

- Promise me that you won’t protect me anymore… And, if you decide to die, you will take me with you… Promise me…

The newscaster was confused. He couldn’t promise any of those things simply because he wasn’t the suicidal type, and he wanted to guard Masaki no matter what. He wanted to try his old trick and kiss him without answering. But, this time, the bartender put his fingers on his lips.

- Promise me…

Sho didn’t have a choice.

- I promise…

They joined in a passionate kiss, forgetting about the world outside.
