Perhaps I shouldn't be shocked to the degree that I am by these quotes I just unearthed via google, but I AM surprised (and thrilled) by the sheer *amount* of credit this half of New Order heaps on Mr. Peel ( Read more... )

i think that joy division would have still happened if peel was not around. i do not think they would have been anywhere near as well known if it hadnt been for peel and i am not sure that they would have moved on to new order if peel hadnt been in the mix..

it is interesting to think about. what do you think?

I'm not sure, having not lived and grown with them in their environment and time period -- a lot of people who WERE around during that time and in roughly the same place give a LOT of credit to Peel for initially exposing them to music that was very influential on them. I'm not sure that without Peel they would have been moved to make the same music. Would they still have been musically creative without Peel? Almost certainly.
