Well, this could probably the weirdest pimp post ever since im not even promoting it anywhere, hence its not even qualified as a 'Pimp' post but whatever. its basically an introductory or collection post posing as a pimp post, all for my own personal satisfaction. it's also a bit of a tribute post (sorta) since the band im gonna be talking about, Kemuri, is disbanding this coming Sunday, Dec 9, performing their last concert in their 12 years of their musical career together as a band in Zepp Tokyo. ahhh...doesnt it move you when brilliant bands make decisions like that. i wished i could go to their last concert though!
I find it abit funny how brilliant bands from Japan are not as popular as their Jpop comrades in the country but are more recognised and appreciated overseas than the latter. I could give numerous examples but today im gonna only talk about one and that is KEMURI!!
i found this video montage(well, sorta) on youtube. it's of them performing one of their most known and played songs, Ato-Ichinen, and the crowds that dances along to it. its quite amazing. check out the crowd dancing to them. iyahh...brings back memories of youth. not that i've lost all my youth already, i mean im still a teenager but those were the days when the future dont matter.

ok im not really into ska or skapunk anymore. i went through alot of phases(shut up jenny, everyone did) and there was this one time i was into skapunk(shut up, again, at least im not denying it) coz it was just so happy and bouncy and Kemuri promoted such positive messages and it made them quite a huge standpoint for that period of my life. so listening to them again just makes me all nostalgic and happy.
Obligatory band intro:
Kemuri is a Japanese ska-punk band formed in 1995. They have an upbeat sound with positive lyrics which they refer to as PMA (positive mental attitude). While the majority of the songs are in English, they do also sing in Japanese.
The band line-up:
Fumio Ito (伊藤 ふみお), vocals
Noriaki Tsuda (津田 紀昭), bass
Hidenori Minami (南 英紀), guitar
Shoji Hiraya (平谷 庄至), drums
Ken Kobayashi (コバヤシ ケン), saxophone
Ryosuke Morimura (森村 亮介), trumpet (RIP)
In 2003, two of their members, Ryosuke Morimura and Shoji Hiraya were involved in a car crash (this was actually in the middle of their "TYPHOON" tour) and Ryosuke Morimura, their trumpet player permanently left the band and the world(he suffered head injuries and died. sorry i wanted to be fancy with my words) while Shoji was severely injured suffering fractures in 7 locations. Their activities were suspended for awhile.
They came back with full force on the 1st of March of 2004. What i felt was amazing is how they maintained their line-up throughtout the course of their career. I mean sure they have a couple sessionist in some of their performances but the band stayed united.
This is a video clip of one of their first few singles,P.M.A. which stands for Positive Mental Attitude. released in 1998.

I think what i like about Kemuri is how positive and humble they are. Even before they reach their peaks, their reputation has already went beyond Japan (it reached to where i am 6 or 8 years ago) and they even went as far to America, and they're still down-to-earth. i guess what im trying to say is that, we didnt get any of that rockstar drama with them even as their fame grew and the crowd going to their shows grew too. and if they do have rockstar drama going on, they managed to contain it within the band itself and not involve the entire fandom which basically bring out what's really important to them, which is the music, and that should be what its all about anyway.
Anyway, i found a clip of them at this year's RISING SUN ROCK FESTIVAL (2007). they were performing P.M.A., I'm So Satisfied! and Ato-Ichinen. it's basically another brilliant show by them. As soon as they started playing, the crowd went happy-wild! (excuse my lack of creative crowd descriptions) You can also here them singing along in Ato-Ichinen (the only japanese song. no wonder?) and other performers or staffs crashing into that third performance and just basically dancing carefree-ly. its really fun to watch. douzo.

*RSRFest is an annual rock festival in Japan. This year, the 2-day festival was made up of 37000 festival goers, 6 stages, artworks(by kids and professionals), food stalls (with a variety of food from Russian to Chinese) and lots of beer! all this is according to a random festival goer, since i wasnt there myself. Other artists in the line-up this year includes The Cornelius Group, Asian Kung Fu Generation and Snail Ramp to name a few.

well...i think i am almost done here. yeah, phew. pimp posts are tough huh and this isnt even a real pimp post! and this actually took me 3 days to do coz while i was typing it the first time, livejournal went bonkers on me and ate up half of my entry. its weird, i still dont know what happened. and then RE-TYPED everything again and AGAIN it ate up half of my entry. so i gave up and couldnt bring myself to continue and then today i figured i should finish up what i started and try to get this done before Dec 9 so it'll feel more proper and yeay! im done. so if you're reading this and liked it, spread the kemuri love around yo!
that's it for today.
cheers!
