Ode to a pigeon I met for a little while....

Walking from the rail station to work, I noticed a flutter ahead of me as I walked in my own thoughts/world.

And then saw a pigeon, sitting on the edge of the footpath (and it put me in mind of slvrdreams finding of a beautiful dead pigeon. Mind was alive though. And hurt. I looked to my left and realised the fluttering was one of the gang of bullying ( Read more... )

I'm sooo sorry. It's always horrible to have something like that happen; to want so desperately to help an animal that's in pain but not be able to. It may not be of comfort, but I think you did the right thing. I worked as an emergency vet tech for a couple of years and saw my share of these injuries. Putting him to sleep is the kindest thing that can be done...it doesn't hurt, there is no fear, and it's quick. It's much better than the possible alternatives. *hugs* You're obviously a very sweet person. Many a person would have left it where they found it.

The receptionist actually said someone had phoned in about a pigeon with a broken wing last night... methinks it was the same pigeon, without the mortal wounds. :(

*hugs* it was good of you to take it to the vet, the poor thing. and anything like that can bring up things you never expect to associate with it.

Thankyou.

I think it upsets me more to not acknowledge animals and people have lived. For them not to have ever been noticed. Hence writing about it.
