Why do you think the ants would react differently to ants from trees that are farther away? I think the biggest determinant of the Pseudomyrmex ants hostility to foreign ants would be the relatedness between the two groups of ants. In general, it may be likely that ants from a closer tree are more likely to be more closely related to the ants from the "subject tree", so distance may have some correlation. It's also possible that the ants from the "subject tree" consider ants from a tree that is further away to be more of a threat than the ants from a tree nearby, but this would depend on whether the ants can detect the native location of the foreign ants that they come into contact with. And i don't think the ants are THAT smart. That's my PROFESSIONAL opinion.
