so, after four and a half months, ive finaly finished reading  Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell.I have to say, its one of the better books ive read in the last few years. almost a historical document with a fantasy world seamlesly weaved into it. if you have ever read the flashman papers, give this a spin ( Read more... )

It's a brilliant book isn't it - did you know it took the author ten years to write due to all the footnotes?

There's a good book called "The Victorians" by A.N. Wilson which is a really informative book. Otherwise there are lots of books about the Victorian fin-de-siecle era which are worth a read :)

i didnt realise the ten year duration was due to the footnotes, i was under the impresion it just took her ten years....

as for current reading, ive just started to re-read Blood Sinister by Celia Rees ( http://www.amazon.co.uk/Blood-Sinister-Point-Horror-Unleashed/dp/0590137492/ref=sr_1_5/203-7216556-5089543?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1178998533&sr=8-5 ) which is always a nice easy read (cos its a kids book...)

now ive just looked at your recomended victorain book, i realised that i almost bought it the other day on a whim. maybe when ive got a few more pounds spare...
