How is it possible for a towel to be both fluffy and non-absorbent? My theory: it's the fabric softener.

I think you're right. I use fab softener on them, but just not as much. My mom not at all.

I think you're right. I've never used fabric softener on my towels for this reason; I think my mom must have drilled it into my head when I was younger.

I read somewhere that you should not use fab softener on towels b/c it makes them non-absorbent. So--BINGO to your theory.
