~~*~~*~~*~~*~~

It was just a coincidence that they both happened to be at the show.

In the year since her retirement, she'd gone to a show or two, but had mostly avoided all things wrestling... Though she had earmarked this show as one to attend several weeks before when she was told that Edge would be returning that night and Randy would have the WWE title to defend. So she was here tonight, staying in the background now that the show was starting, but she'd had the chance to talk to Edge and Randy and Lilian and Jeff earlier... Randy informing her that he wanted her to be at the base of the stairs before his match because as champion he was demanding a kiss for 'luck' before he went out there. Luck for a good match, maybe, but not luck for a win. He was already booked for that.

She, however, wasn't the only one that was here to visit.

Someone else was here as well, his arm still in a sling to keep him from moving it too much. Like her, he was keeping to the edge of the action, but unlike her, he looked so very lost. She'd been out of the business for a year, making only a few indy appearances that were really just because she was friends with the promoter. She wasn't a part of this anymore, though many of her friends still were. But for him... He wasn't just used to being a *part* of the show; he was used to being the *main event* of the show. And now, he was sitting on the sidelines, being uncharacteristically quiet as he watched the goings on, a solemn expression on his face that made her think he wished he hadn't come. She understood his second thoughts, because while it was her choice not to be a part of things, it wasn't his. And, to be honest, she knew how he felt.

She'd spent months going to shows when she was out with her neck injury, just so she could shoot a segment or two for Heat. Most of the announcing had been done in the studio; they just needed a few shots of her and Coach each week at the announce table. She'd do her segments, then go in the back and watch everyone else do what they loved to do. She didn't get to be a part of it then, and it had hurt so much... Hurt her like it was hurting him now.

Shaking her head a little, Lita got to her feet, the former diva making her way over to the injured former champion. He was standing quietly, his back against the wall as he observed everything around him, and she could sense the moment he realized she was approaching him. He stood up a little straighter, a hint of curiosity in his blue eyes as he watched her move closer to him... John Cena opening his mouth to say something to her - probably hello - his mouth snapping shut again when she stepped forward, wrapping her arms around his neck in a hug. She was careful of his injured arm, staying away from his right side as best she could, and after John got over the shock of her just walking up and hugging him without a word, she felt his good arm come to wrap around her, the arm coming around her waist as he held her just a little closer. She'd caught him off guard, she knew that, but he was handling it well, and Lita smiled slightly up at him as she stepped back, John's arm tightening around her for a moment before he released her, Lita keeping her own hands resting gently on his shoulders.

"I ain't complaining or anything, but... What was that for?" he asked, looking almost a little embarrassed, which she had to admit was adorably cute since it seemed so out of character for him.

She smiled at him again, her fingers coming up to brush over his cheek before she spoke. "You looked like you needed it," she told him, and the wrestler gave her the hint of a smile.

"I guess maybe I did," he said, and her smiled widened a little.

"You think you need another one?" she asked, and this time, she got a full smile - complete with dimples - from the man.

"I think I might."

The End
