friend n. 1. A person whom one knows, likes, and trusts. 2. A person whom one knows; an acquaintance. 3. A person with whom one is allied in a struggle or cause; a comrade. 4. One who supports, sympathizes with, or patronizes a group, cause, or movement: friends of the clean air movement. 5. Friend A member of the Society of Friends; a Quaker.
I've asked myself that question before and decided that it's too vague because there are so many levels of friendship, ranging from anyone you've interacted with all the way up to your spouse. I think it's relative too, If you have the greatest friend in the world and suddenly lose them, you'll compare most people you meet to them and then think they're not your friends but it turns out that they really are in the end.
