Yeah, I mean she's seen One, after all, who was pretty much the definition of crotchety old coot. Twelve is a strapping young man by comparison.
Capaldi is great; the rest of it is pretty standard Moffat, including the weirdness at the end. And I'm getting a creepy stalker vibe from the lady at the end calling the Doctor her "boyfriend", which doesn't surprise me coming from Moffat at all. Of course he's going to have yet another woman be gaga over the Doctor or whatever. *eyeroll*
I've stuck with it this long so it's not like I'm going to stop watching now, especially since I still do who_daily. And I'll probably mostly enjoy at least the Capaldi stuff. But Doctor Who has definitely hit that "homework" feeling for me. I'm watching to keep informed more than anything else, which is not how I want to watch a show.
For me... It's sort of like... a church. Not in that it's about worship... But this thing that came along and you never had much experience with and it Opened Your Eyes and changed your life, and you met all these wonderful people who have been transformed by it too. But then the church starts doing things you don't agree with. That don't fit in to your ideals, why you came there in the first place. But you hang around because you like your brethren, and it's an obligation anyway, and maybe, if you hang around long enough, the teachings will come back around to what resonates with you.
I just came to Capalday, not expecting more, but hoping really hard.
BBCA's commercials are hugely disruptive to the show's flow, rendering it nearly unwatchable for me. I will often watch the BBCA broadcast anyway just for the hell of it, but only after having first watched the episode by other means.
I don't remember how much Clara remembers, but I know she's got some working knowledge of past Doctors. Why would she be SO thrown by his apparent age?
I've been thinking about this one since I first saw the episode leak, and for me, it comes down to this: it's one thing for Clara to be aware of regeneration -- after all, she's met Ten, Eleven, and the War Doctor -- and it's another for her to have to process it herself. (N.B. I am pretty sure, though would have to go back to TNotD to be certain, that Clara doesn't remember having met any of the other Doctors -- those were simply copies of her meeting them, not Clara herself
( ... )
It's a tossup for me, because I really want to see the episodes in good quality. And the best will come from the tv. But the commercials are terrible. So I guess I can compromise by banking time and being able to skip the ads. But that is only slightly less disruptive.
I can never remember the details of Clara's impossibleness, tbh. But she did hang out with an "old" Doctor herself. I get that it would be an adjustment, especially with the Doctor spending so long not having a handle on himself. But to be so shocked and offput by it as to apparently be about to leave because of it seemed really out of character to me. And the phone call to change her mind was just... Ugh. Made no sense and cheapened all (2-3) characters.
looks like you had most of the same thoughts I did, though I'll be honest, I wasn't even properly sober when I watched it, so maybe I need a rewatch.
but yeah, I'm pretty "meh" about it too, Capaldi I'm sure I can get along just fine with, but with the writing still being as god-awful as it was last season, well that's clearly going to affect things for me, and not in a good way

I'm not sure if it's the official reason, but I like to think it's through the Wolf.
