Uh, yeah, it was that bad. Apparently they left the salamanderbabies in their new environment to grow up and spawn their own inbred salamanderbabies. Humanity prevails. Awesome.
The conversation between Janeway/Paris was hilariously awkward, given that they'd, uh, spawned with one another not too long ago, and apparently had their memories of salamanderhood.
The "everything goes back to how it was" in the last five minutes was pretty lame, though. THEY GOT HYPER-EVOLVED INTO FREAKIN' NEWTS, THAT IS A NON-TRIVIAL AFFLICTION. It should leave someone pretty freaked out, I would've thought. But no, aside from some vaguely uncomfortable talking it's all Just Another Day On Voyager.
