One- Armour Love [La Roux]
Holmes knew the announcement was coming; it had been in the making for a while now. Miss. Mary Morstan, the beautiful women that had caught Dr. John Watson’s attention. He tried to pull his dear friend away from her, mainly do the fact the doctor was his. His friend, partner, and… only reason to really press on. He got in black moods while Watson was away, if only for a couple of days due to patients in need of his care- it felt akin to hell.
“I’m going to ask her to marry me.” Watson finally said. The detective didn’t meet his gaze, didn’t trust himself to. Instead he tried not to panic. He didn’t want to lose Watson, especially to that woman. I seemed, however, to be inevitable.
Two- Medicine Man [The Hush Sound]
The more time Watson spent with his fiancé, the more he seemed to ignore the detective who was practically begging for the others attention. The doctor, his fine doctor, seemed to start ignoring him. He kept a cool face and tried in many attempts to sabotage their relationship. This was not to the amusement of Watson.
Simply, Holmes didn’t want to be forgotten. He gripped for any time he still had, wanting nothing more than to steal Watson away from Mary. Couldn’t he hear Sherlock’s silent scream of agony?
Three- Bite My Tongue [Relient K]
All attempts had failed, they were getting married. He was, obviously, the best man for the ceremony. He felt stuff in the pressed suit that he had been forced to wear and he wanted to look away from the horrific scene in front of him. Fake people with fake smiles for a plastic union; Watson shouldn’t be getting married to this girl. The girl who had almost forbid Holmes into her wedding at al. John had insisted however, and for once the detective had wished that Mary had won that argument.
“Are there any objections to this union? Speak now or forever hold your peace.” The preacher called and Holmes could taste blood filling his mouth from where his teeth were digging into his tongue.
Four- Lets Talk About Spaceships [Say Hi To Your Mom]
It had been two days since Watson had gotten back from his honeymoon in Paris, and he went straight to Holmes’ side. He was in a dark mood, itching for his liquid heaven but he had used it all after the Watson wedding. The doctor came to his side, gasping in horror at the state his dear friend was in.
“Holmes, what have you done to yourself?” He nearly growled as he forced to the other man to sit up in his chair instead of his earlier position sprawled out on the rug.
“Oh, Watson, there you are. You know I have found a great discovery in your absence…” but he trailed off once he saw the serious edge to the doctor’s gaze.
“You’re usually not this bad, Sherlock. What happened to you?”
The condition known as love, the biggest high a man can know and the vilest of all diseases. Holmes answered in his own head, but instead of voicing his thoughts he settled on. “Nothing that we need to discuss, old boy; how was your honeymoon with Miss. Morstan?”
Five- Roll With the Wind [Alexander Rybek]
He had a case, but it wasn’t particularly difficult. Two days distraction tops. He had gone out into the country for it and that was most of the time it took for the case- just getting there. He had staid the night in a small inn and looked out of the rains that seemed to always plague England. Dreary, really. He wished, and not for the first time, that Watson was still accompanying him on these endeavors.
Quickly he turned to the fire and put more wood onto it, trying to forget his last train of thought. He had found a while ago that it really wasn’t Watson’s fault for the leaving, it wasn’t like Holmes had told him about his feelings. He had left in a mannerly way and was a perfect gentleman through all of it. Plus, he still came to visit and have dinners at the Royale from time to time.
The only thing he could really blame was his aching heart for falling in love in the first place.
Six- Loves Me Not [t.A.T.u]
“John, stop!” He could hear Mary screaming at him, tears streaming down his face. She was hurt, he could tell, and it hurt him inside. “All you talk about his him! You follow him in the papers and always find a way to see him. You missed our anniversary because you thought he wasn’t doing well! I love you John, I truly do, but this needs to stop!”
He should have felt guilt, but there was nothing in his mind but some anger. How dare she question him! Then it hit him- he really didn’t care about her in a way a husband should his wife. He loved her, yes, but his heart yearned more for his dear friend than the woman before him.
“Mary I…” She loved him, she deserved better. Holmes loved him [he knew that now], be deserved more.
“No John, you have to choose. I won’t be in the game any longer.” She wiped away her tears, but before her husband could say another word she left the room not wanting hear the answer.
Seven- White Flag [Dido]
Watson ran into the Baker Street address Sherlock Holmes still resided in, he still had his key. He didn’t knock as he swung the detective’s door open, panting from running the entire way from his home. “Holmes!” He called into the room and saw said man look up from whatever book he was reading.
“Watson, you look positively pale. What happened to you dear fellow?” He asked, his brow rose in curiosity and slight concern.
John needed this conversation to get to the point, needed to know if he was right. “Holmes, do you love me?” There was tense silence.
“I’m sure there is a type of love, yes, I mean you and I are basically brothers in-”
“You know what I mean, now answer my question!” Watson ground out, not wanting to hear another word of vague truths. Holmes sighed and got up from his seat, staring the other in the eyes as he answered.
“Yes, but you chose her over me. I will not fight for a place in your heart, as much as I desperately want it.”
Eight- I’m Not Your Toy [La Roux]
“Holmes, no… I love you. You don’t have to fight for it, it’s always been yours.” Watson said, taking a step forward. He pictured a great many things that would happen, but a punch in the face hadn’t really been one of the outcomes that came to mind. He staggered back, clutching the cheek that would certainly be bruised by the morning.
“No Watson, you do not get to play with my emotions like that! You chose her over me; I was forced to sit through your union. I will die with this love, yes, but I shan’t be played with this way. Let me guess, you got tired of your wife so you came crawling back to me? Decided to play on my feelings?” He was positively radiant with anger, glaring at the reeling doctor before him.
“No, it’s not like that. I just realized, just saw how much you cared for me. I thought it was friendship, but then Mary told me to choose. I looked inside myself and saw that I didn’t care for her as much as I do you. Saw that if there was a person I wanted to spend my days with, share my heart with, he was a man and certainly no woman I could ever marry. Please, Sherlock, listen to me!” Watson begged against the relentlessly clod eyes pinning him where he stood.
“How can I trust you? How do I know this isn’t a trick, one last way to break my already shattered heart?”
Nine- Drumming Song [Florence and the Machine]
“Because every time I look at you my heart starts beating; I start to realize that I’m actually alive. When I’m not with you, I want to be. When there is a conversation, I always find a way to bring you and one of your cases us. You are the most amazing man I have ever known, and I can’t stop from wondering what it would be like to be with you.” He moved closer, ignoring the suspicious look that his companion was giving him. Holmes didn’t pull back, so at least that was a start.
“You are the most amazing man I have ever had the pleasure to know. You captivate me, and long ago you also captivated my heart. Domesticity felt like the right thing to do, but it was never what I wanted. I love you, Holmes. I shall do anything to prove it to you.” He grabbed Holmes’ hand and put it against his beating heart. It was going so fast, the pace brutal. He knew from his medical studies that he should try to calm down, but this moment was far too important.
Ten- I’d Come for You [Nickleback]
Holmes looked into Watson’s eyes, searching for the truth. He was hurt, but his heart still loved with all it had. Whatever he found in his eyes was enough. He grabbed Watson’s other hand and put it over his own heart. “You can’t go back to her after this.”
Watson smiled and leaned forward, lightly brushing their lips together lightly. “Thank you, for everything.”
