Being a non-porridge eater (I know...the shame of it!),....I'd never have imagined there could be such a contest. Very amusing indeed....and the term "spurtle" is classic :-)

I didn't know what a spurtle was until my aunt used the term a few years ago - she has a spurtle :) I don't, I just use a wooden spoon.

What a interesting thing to judge!
I can't say I am much of a prridge eater. Perhaps it is a Scottish thing?;)

I think it is a Scottish thing. In England oats were considered to be an inferior grain, while in Scotland they were a staple part of the diet. Apparently the English used to say that "oats are only fit to be fed to horses and Scotsmen" to which the Scottish riposte is "and England has the finest horses and Scotland the finest men". :)

Long live porridge!

Rolled oats - the foundation of the Scots [and of those who would like to be :)]

Almost daily fare enjoyed at our place - and it's GOOD for you!!!!!
