I hope California gets its law changed for the better, too.
I think Maryland is getting closer to marriage equality. We came pretty close in the last legislative session. Now our governor (an Irish Catholic, incidentally) has signed on as a co-sponsor. Hopefully we will see some happy same-sex couples here in the not-too-distant future (although they can always cross over into DC and get hitched there).
I can't think of anything else to say but 'This ^' because you are exactly right.
Hopefully Grant and I can make the hop to NY and get married soon. Since DOMA was repealed with the military, I'll finally get all the same benefits as a hetero spouse. As soon as we're married.
