Oh my god, I have a Tumblr.I blame this entirely on Teen Wolf, which happened to me in the beginning of February. Avengers, last summer, took me from reading fic on LJ to reading on AO3; TW appears to be taking me from connecting with people on LJ to doing it on tumblr ( Read more... )

... you have just been followed by my totally non-fandom tumblr,
inconnamorata. I've got no intention of ever attempting actual words over there, but, you know, hi anyway! (I'm there for the pictures.)

But more, Teen Wolf coffee shop AU! You've just given me the happiest grin - good luck writing!

But most important - cock/dick. It's not so much that I've noticed a change, because I've always used one or the other, but it has been a conscious choice - what word is this particular person likely to use? What fits the story? Dick's always struck me as a little more rough and ready - I think it fits Teen Wolf. Fantasy AU, I'd use cock. Dean Winchester, in a 20s AU, says pecker. British fandoms, I tend to use cock - unless it's seriously contemporary. Then, dick. Actually, the one word I haven't really used in fic, because I've never yet written my own North of UK background, is the ubituitous North East knob. One day ( ... )

I mostly plan on using it to post fic announcements (hah, I say that as though I expect a lot of fic to be forthcoming, which I don't). I'm not interested in writing short, uncomplicated things - the one I'm working on now is about as much that direction as I can do. Actually, I'm having a blast with it because I've always wanted to write a cliche-ridden, over the top, emo fic. One that makes you cringe and yet devour it at the same time because it's emo!porn. Once I finish a draft, I'm going to go back over it and try to kick it up in that direction even more, although I've already facepalmed while writing quite frequently, incredulous that I'm actually doing this. But I suspect what makes me laugh/cringe because I think I'm being obvious or dramatic doesn't read that way ( ... )

it's way too easy for people to reblog things without the name of the original artist on there

yes, this I've already noticed. It's disturbing, but I get the feeling that that just makes me old. *wry* I found a Teen Wolf rec tumblr and the way it's set up, the recs tell you title and word count and NOT author! I mean, yes, they link you to AO3 but you can't just tell at a glance who wrote it. It's very disconcerting, but not, I think, ill-intentioned in any way.

I both love and don't love the rapidity of it - the way material is constantly cycled about lends itself well to a sense of connection, even without thoughtful commentary, but it also makes me question the depth of any of it. Which, I guess, isn't what we're there for! Just as you say, this - it's like a giant graphic novel or art exhibition curated by a group of reckless, drunken teenagers.

Yeah, I have no idea about the vocabulary. But I shall friend (follow?) you back posthaste.

Do Brits use dick? They never, ever did five years ago, from what I was told.

I am my usual names on Tumblr. Though at the moment it's mostly Les Mis and maybe once a week.

oh, now that's an interesting thought. I don't know, but that would explain why it never showed up in HP. Not SGA, though. But it would also explain my own writing, since even though I started in Lotrips (writing, not reading), I came of age with writing in HP. Hum. Good point.

I do also think it has something to do with the vocabulary and speech patterns of college kids at the moment. I just took a class this semester at the university here and spent a lot of time around the kids, and they really do talk like they do on these various social media groups. Your older's that age - not sure if he talks that way, but it's hysterical. I loved being on campus just to soak up that innocent vibe.

My kids say "dick" in casual conversation all the time, but it's never used in a sexual situation where I would know about it. *g* Whereas no one I know even in my own age group would say "prick" here except in a "that little prick" insulting way, but I've heard Brits around my age do it.

Hee, we met in Lotrips!

Hee, we met in Lotrips!

Isn't that crazy? I remember talking to you from the West Bank ten years ago and everyone waiting for RotK to come out and the headiness of it all.

Caro, hello! *squish* How have you been? I'm not on LJ so much anymore and I miss everyone!

Okay, your Tumblr is a hoot. I don't think I've had the pleasure of seeing so much cock in one place in a long time. Heh.

Thanks for the tips about commenting - I'll keep them in mind as I play around. I haven't actually reblogged anything but I'm going to, just to test things out and fill up some space.

Now I hadn't thought about the "cum" thing, but that's very interesting. I have seen it around a bit, now that you mention it and while it does still make me cringe and think of 80s porn (I don't know where that comes from as I'm not exactly of the age to be an expert on 80s porn!), I will keep reading. But I think I'm going to stick with "come." I'm still making the transition from cock to dick. Hee.

The only way you can comment on tumblr is to reblog and add your thoughts at the bottom. Which I find endlessly frustrating, because your feed is soon seventeen reblogs of the same post so people can have a conversation. The other option - even more frustrating - is to send a message, which you do in the roundabout way of 'asking' (I know :/) and once you've sent it, it vanishes. Same for replying - I replied to an ask with some info I needed in it, and as soon as I'd hit reply, the original ask just disappeared. So tedious, particularly if you always reply privately like I do ( ... )

This is what I mean about not understanding it! You left me a note over there and

1) how did you do that? What did you click?

and 2) how do I respond to it?

Also, I shouldn't even be sitting here as am late leaving for work, eep. I'll be back to your comment here later.

Oooh! On your post, there's a little speech bubble. I clicked that. I've noticed not all posts have them though, so you might not see them on everything on your dash. And I have no idea how to reply to it, because no one ever leaves me any, I've not had to work it out yet ;)

Go go go!! I hope you're not too late.

I have so much hate for tumblr right now I can't even. I've spent the last two hours looking for the speech bubble, and it's not there. I've googled the shit out of it, and installed missing e and I just finally was able to reply to your reply but it simply put it all in a new text post, so I promptly deleted it because that just made a new post to everyone following my tumblr. Because I was able to see a speech bubble hiding under the ignore bubble! And now I can't find that again, and that was to reply to your reply, not even just how to reply in the first place to someone else's post.

Ii had to go eat a bowl full of brownie mix because I'm so frustrated. *headdesk*
