I am apparently being hit with article after article about body-image and fat acceptance issues and it's sparking a rather facinating dialogue. Y'know, the most striking part of this blog is the last sentence. I had never viewed it as an "claiming ownership" issue before now. I'll have to remember it in case such discussion ever comes up (although I'm pretty sure most of my friends are on the same page).

It's funny, isn't it - and by 'funny' I really mean 'not funny at all' - how it's always women's weight that's commented on. Nobody gives a fuck about male actor's weight. Gee, I WONDER WHY.

Well, guys pretty much have the right to do whatever the hell they want with thier own bodies because we have no issues, culturally, with letting guys have thier own autonomy. On the other hand, women who choose to not fit into an increasingly narrow idea of what makes beauty? We're evil, selfish bitches who are letting everyone down and we MUST be shunned and humilated.

After all, everyone knows it's our job to look pretty, keep our mouths shut, and make babies, right? Women having autonomy and opinions of our own? Don't be silly!
