through some sidetracks and the twists and turns of livejournal, i wound up looking at alot of conservative journals tonight... just browsing. it really makes me sad to see so much hate, on both sides i know, but particularly on some journals i just saw ( Read more... )

I love love. But I also love to argue. There's no hate here, it's unhealthy and leads to high blood pressure.

No, really. I agree with letting live, so long as those I've let live don't go kill others. In that case, it would be more of a live and let die scenario.

What in the hell is wrong with me tonight?

reading this has left me feeling all warm and fuzzy.

How about a hug. Someone, anyone?

Argh, the unwelcome journal wandering guy. Is this what I've become?

i find myself in a similar place often. but what started to hit me was this sense of 'no escape.' in my reaction i could so often find a similar process to the one that allowed their hate. can you bring yourself to love those who hate? if i don't, i'm placing myself firmly in the ranks of the inevitably close-minded hypocrites who i'm attempting to judge.

hate would have a tough time making a living without the concepts of good/bad, and right/wrong.

it's all love,
Luka

(if the mindset i'm hinting at sounds interesting or desireable, or you'd just like to see/critique some intellectual routes to compassion that have helped me start digging myself out of the hole, i posted them in the buddhism community.)

By the way, I ran across a comment you made to one of my own LJ entries, and followed the appropriate links to your own LJ. Heh. I've been away from regularly checking LJ long enough that I'd forgotten all about your commentary.

At any rate, I tend to agree with you on the subject of open-mindedness and open-heartedness. What I find truly disappointing in general, though, about the idea is that so many people tend to assume that being "open-minded" means seeing things their way, since an "open mind" would have to see that they are right. Feh.

Just as national genocide as a stated wish is sort of a clear indication of a closed mind and heart, so too is the assertion that violence is "never the answer!" Unfortunately, that attitude just tends to lead to more violence, because those who initiate force then have no check on their aggressions.

Hmm. I didn't mean this to turn into a political rant, but it seems to be headed that way. Mea culpa. I'm just a meager Libertarian Taoist kinda running off at the mouth (fingertips?).
