At Home On The Road - Common Sense Commuter Insights From My Sometime Alter Ego

DEFERENCE

There was a period in my very early 20s when I didn’t drive, for about four years or so, during a transitional phase after my first car died, but before I was in a position to get another vehicle.  In the interim, I got around primarily by bus.  The Twin Cities has a decent enough metro transit system - scheduling is generally pretty ( Read more... )

I was thinking about the old days of livejournal and other online journals. How I don't recognize the scene that exists today.

How exciting that this is an actual written story of sorts. It feels so good to stumble onto nice writing on livejournal, like the old days. This makes me realize how much I miss that community of writers and thinkers. Thank you for giving me a piece of the old days to feel again. I miss the motivation to write so much....

Thank you for dropping in, and welcome to my journal!

I've been around here for a number of years myself, being as long in the tooth as I am, and I use it primarily for telling stories from my life. It seems the only real motivator for getting me to actually make the commitment to sit down and devote the time to write on a regular basis, though, has been the writing community, LJ Idol. I don't love that there is an element of competition to this community, as I'd much rather a group which puts forth a communal environment for hosting and sharing stories of all kinds, but this is the group I stumbled into more than 10 years ago, and it's been responsible for prodding me into most of the writing I've done during that time.

We are currently midway through a regular season right now, and I couldn't say when the next one after this will start up, but if you'd like to become connected to this collective and review some of the other entries, they are currently posted in the very next entry on this journal Submitted for Your ... )

Ha! Thanks. I’m glad in translated in text alone... I was intending to record an audio bit for that portion, but, apparently, LJ has shut down the numbers you used to be able to use to record from your phone, and it seems my computer has a crappy internal microphone. So I’m very pleased to know it works without! 😊

I remember that! I used to use it occasionally. I remember when Yahoo! mail also used to have an option where you could check your email using a regular phone. A computer voice would read it to you!

Every voice-post on LJ I've ever made was using that method, and now I guess I'm going to have to go get a better microphone, since this is the second time this season I've wanted to do include a voice-post bit, and it probably won't be the last. I guess I'm just starting to get to that era where I'm old enough to start aging out of available technology! :-/

Ain’t it though? I don’t normally go about taking on responsibility for doling out said comeuppance in the real world, but I made a special exception in this case! 😉 Thanks for dropping in!

Thank you... ain't it funny what lengths one goes to in order to keep oneself entertained when you spend about 25 hours a week sitting alone in your head? :-D
