Lame Movie Titles

Mattjackson and I always talked about movie names that are half-sentence sayings, like "Take The Lead", "Failure To Launch", "She's The Man", "Preaching To The Choir", "Take It Easy", and so on. These names are really corny, but your concern should be what most student shorts use as titles - this usually means a simple, one or two word title that has probably been used a hundred times. See "Theives", "1000 Words", "Milk", and so on. Avoid this.

My favourite titles are nouns or phrases that mean nothing unless you've seen the movie, which features that noun or phrase in the narrative. "Boogie Nights", "Mulholland Drive", "Videodrome", "eXistenZ", "Buffalo 66", "Fight Club", and whatnot. These are intriguing and usually original, in that they wouldn't be used by anyone else because they're specific to that movie. Problem: if you don't have a named object, product, organization, company, or character with a catchy name in your movie, these sorts of titles don't apply. Oh well.
