Haven't been here in a while

I just haven't bothered with lj in months. Sorry, everyone. And now I only come back to post a meme, but it's a fun one. Apparently I am not completely evil, and I only have to spend eternity in Limbo. My faith appears to be at an all time low, however.

The Dante's Inferno Test has sent you to the First Level of Hell - Limbo!

Gotta love fundamentalist stories.

Funny how THEY think of the most awful things for people.

Dante is a little before Fundamentalism, really. At the time there was the Catholic Church and only the Catholic Church. (Unless you lived somewhere that was Greek Orthodox, but Italy was most decidedly Catholic.) There really wasn't much of an option.

Most of the Inferno is also a political commentary. There was a lot of turmoil around the time Dante wrote it, and he was exiled for a while and accused of treason (if I remember correctly), yet he believed that other people were the treasonous parties, which is why the deepest level of hell is reserved for traitors. It's like declaring his innocence and bashing his opponents at the same time. And a lot of the characters were political figures of the day. I only know all this because I read an excellent translation with lots of footnotes. It's a good read, but there are a lot of different translations out there, so the trick is to find a good one.

dont have time atm to take the test, likely going to be late for work anyway [but thats normal], but.

"A place of sorrow without torment? Fuck, it seems like I spend a lot of time in Limbo already." XD

so, what about living in a place os sorrow AND torment? that mean half of us already live in hell on earth?

my estimate would be about 5 atm, but we'll see XD.

and, OMG KARN! HI2U!

The rest of Dante's version of hell is sorrow + torment - lots and lots of torment - with each kind of torment cleverly designed to be uniquely applicable to the type of sin you are being punished for.

Limbo actually sounded like a pretty cool place, considering the alternatives. All the really smart people go there and sit around for eternity discussing things and feeling melancholy. Totally my kind of place, LOL.

You are a much better soul than I. Look at all those very lows! I'm sure you'll be out of purgatory in no time. :D
