It upsets me that anyone, especially people you trusted, would ever say anything negative about you, especially saying those things to you. I don't like that what they said in any way, big or small, affects how you feel about yourself and who you are.

Anyone who thinks that my Karen has shortcomings as a human being, aside from the shortcoming all human beings have, is dumb.

On becoming a grownup-on behalf of grownups everywhere, sorry, it was bound to happen eventually.
On guys who say jerk things-on behalf of men everywhere, once again sorry, we have no innate tact. It must be drilled into us by caring females.

Way to be open and honest with the world about your decision to look online (something I'm having to get better at, seeing as how I'm now dating someone I met on one of those sites). I will tell you that lots of people say it took them months and months to meet someone on one of those sites... So I don't think you're incompatible.
What I DO think you are is unique, and dynamic, and empowered, and intimidatingly solid in who you are and what you believe. That's a lot for a mere mortal man to handle. You'll find one eventually, though.
So cool that you have this volunteer opportunity. Know you'll enjoy it.
