Summary: Joey tries to pick a movie to watch with Billy.
Notes: For
prompt 34, "not enough." Sort of. Mostly this is the fault of the next story I'm writing, wherein Billy and Joey do, in fact, watch a movie, and smut ensues. I had a horrible time picking what movie they should be watching, and then an equally horrible time getting my hands on the movie. This led to me complaining on my LJ that if I didn't get the movie I wanted, "Billy and Joey will find themselves watching LABYRINTH, which would work only if I were writing crackfic."
irisbleu thought I should take that as a challenge. Sorry, Adrienne -- this is as close as I'm likely to get. And no, this is not in the same continuity as the one I'm still writing. I think.
THE DELICATE USES OF SUBTEXT
*
The Princess Bride.
Too obvious. Billy would like the sword-fights and the jokes, but he got really cynical about "true love" sometimes. Billy making faces at "as you wish" wasn't the kind of opening Joey was looking for.
Star Wars.
Too geeky. Same for Empire Strikes Back and Return Of The Jedi, especially the last, because not even Snuffy would be enough of a moron to think that "hi, let's watch psycho teddy bears kick ass" was gonna score any points unless Billy was way more into sci-fi than he'd ever told Joey.
Labyrinth.
…what the fuck? What was this movie? Why did he even have a movie that was, according to the cover, mostly about David Bowie in really tight pants? That would be one way to tell Billy he was interested in guys, if Billy ever stopped laughing, but Joey had planned on something a little more subtle.
Legend.
Oh, even better. Jesus, had one of his cousins left movies behind after her last sleepover or something? This one had unicorns in it. Billy wouldn't even laugh, he'd just ask when Joey turned into a girl. A twelve-year-old girl.
The Muppet Movie.
Maybe. Except this was the first movie Billy ever saw -- fuck, the things he remembered from random stupid conversations -- and while that could be kind of cool, he'd like a movie that was less about remembering what it was like to be five. Even if Miss Piggy kicked more ass than the psycho teddy bears.
Back To The Future.
Great movie, but still not helpful with bringing up certain subjects. Then again, Joey didn't think he owned a movie that would let him easily, discreetly bring up a subject like hi, actually, I like guys, you in particular -- so, can I kiss you?
…fuck it. It was good enough. Joey dropped the movie on top of the VCR, and headed out. Billy would be here in a half an hour.
