Got a library card today - I was surprised that it was only $12. I do have to say that the local branch is the piddliest little library I've seen short of Keremeos. As Keremeos has 4000 households, that's not saying much

Haven't run into the In Death series before. And sadly, not Wen Spencer either, though after a quick search I might have to bite into that author.
The library search... *diagnosis mode* Okay, if they're using a MySQL search, I think I know what's going on: bad indexing. They might not be at fault, though; if there's a FullText index in their search, those don't get along well with normal indexes, and it'll force a table scan on the other columns. *end diagnosis mode* Though I can't really do anything about that....
They were running JSP. No idea why I was so slow - the computer itself seemed to take a very long time to respond to my mouse clicks though, so I'm inclined to think it might be a hardware issue (not enough ram?). Just trying to toggle on the task bar was deadly slow as well. Haven't tried the website from my home connection to verify.
The In Death series is Scifi/Mystery/Romance by Nora Roberts aka JD Robb. It's usually found in the Mystery section. I'm big on cross-genre fiction.
And Wen Spencer really rocks, only found her last year I think but she immediately went on my MUST BUY EVERYTHING list. I just don't have the budget right now to buy all her backstock. She's also on LJ but doesn't post much. It's so nice to be able to stalk.. er watch authors on LJ. :D
At our library, we get the skeptical "What does it cost me to get a library card?" question all the time! And we always say "You taxes pay for it, it's free :3"
So for me that's so mind-boggling XD But I bet your libraries have more money than we do... We're always fighting with the local government to get more funding T_T
