The iPod's a findable device when it's hooked up to your PC. Inside the device's icon there's a couple useless folders. There's also a hidden folder which contains all the content on the iPod. If you fiddle with the settings for folder and search options (under view or organize or something) and tell Windows to show hidden files and folders, it should pop up.
Now... all the files are scattered and unorganized. They are hard to sift through. But they are there. You can copy the music from that folder to a different one.
I agree with galt, hook them both up to your laptop, old one first then the new one. The new one should sync up and music should pour forth. If not...well, I'm so sorry. :-( Merry Christmas!
