Ah well, there's good things to read on SA. Knowing that everything that's posted is going to be readable, even if it doesn't exactly satiate whatever craving I'm having at that moment, is why I started SA, and it's lived up to that nicely. In this case, I was actually lamenting not being able to find anything worth reading in several other passing fandoms, ie. Smallville and Spooks.
Sometimes, when I can't find good fanfic to read I make a come to try to get some (ie. Matters of the Mind, in hopes of getting some Thoughtcrimes fanfic), but even if I started a new comm every time I wanted fanfic to read in a new fandom (which isn't actually that far beyond me), it still takes time to attract people and the fic is slow to trickle in and doesn't necessarily keep trickling in (again, points to MoM as an example), so it doesn't really help in a spur of the moment craving sorta situation.
Ah, I figured as much ;) And I know what you mean, especially in terms of cravings. During those lull periods between ficathons, it's like there's next to nothing to read in SGA. That's when I go exploring, and run into the stories I wish I can scrub from my brain :P
I've been trying to think up one-shot TC fics but can't come up with anything I want to write. I have an idea for a longer fic, but the plot still needs a lot of work. Plus my brain is fixated on First Monday, but then ideas are always plentiful when there's a new fandom to play with :P It shouldn't last long, though, as First Mondy isn't the kind of show I can do a lot with.
I'll be posting a new TC challenge soon. Perhaps you'll find it inspiring, but I know from personal experience, that when a new fandom is on one's mind, it's hard to come up with ideas for other things.
Concur........ So much of it is mediocre or even worse...... If it does not grab me immediately it is deleted In another community I volunteered to do judging and could NOT believe how badly some of the entries needed a beta. It was terrible in terms of spelling, punctuation, grammar, and story direction/continuity. Some of the stuff just jumped out at me, but I see it sometimes in books also...... My sister, who is a writer, tells me publishers no longer use editors. I guess they are under the mistaken belief that the computer will do it all.
