Black Carl, a no-frills blend of funk, soul, bluesand jazz, has one of the strongest female lead singers I've heard in a long time. Opening for Grand Ole Party is no easy task, and the other opening band failed. However, Black Carl,  with Emma Pew on vocals, left me charged and excited for GOP.

I was there, for that performance, and fell in love with the sound. I was drawn like a moth to the flame, away from the decorated vinyl dolls and cheaply made crafts and toward a makeshift stage with four unassuming figures perched on it... three lanky young men, and a petite girl who sings with a voice much to large for her frame.

Bought the EP, brought it back to the frigid north, attempted to share with hardly any positive results. Some people just don't get music.
