NOTICE!
These icons have been removed.
When I found the geisha images, I thought they were stock and proceded to make some icons. After all, the title of Frantisek Staud's page was "Travel photo gallery and stock photographs." I learned, after I revisited the
website, that the photography is copyrighted (which is no surprise, because they were so good) and are "stock" if you pay him a fee. Here is the a message from his copyright page:The intellectual property may not be copied to another computer, transmitted, published, reproduced, stored, manipulated, projected, or altered in any way, including without limitation any digitization or synthesizing of the images, alone or with any other material, by use of computer or other electronic means or any other method or means now or hereafter known, without the written permission of Frantisek Staud and payment of a fee or arrangement thereof.
Some of you may be thinking Frantisek Staud will never visit this site or become aware of the icons. However, I feel strongly about copyrights and protecting one's artwork. This is something other artists should understand, including fellow icon makers. Therefore, I have taken down the geisha icons to comply with his copyright policy. If I had realized the material was copyrighted in the first place, I never would have made the icons.
I am sorry to those of you who were expecting to see the icons. Those of you who have taken the icons, I do not know what to tell you. I do not think Frantisek Staud will ever know that a handful of you may be using icons with his photography. In respect towards him I've taken down the images, but it is your choice if you continue to use the icons.
In any case, there is a very minimal risk that the icons could somehow be noticed. If that happened, both you, the icon user, and me, the creator, could be in some trouble. I am not paranoid; I am only mentioning this to be on the safe side.
In the icon community, a lot of people are not careful in what they make images from and what they post. It is unlikely that Frantisek Staud would have noticed my icons. But, I just want to set an example and do the right thing.
