At some point I believe I must have had some exams. Prelims, I think they were called. I remember precisely nothing about them. Not where they took place, nor what kinds of questions we were given to answer. I suppose I must have passed them, for no trouble arose and no stern interviews were sought. There are quite a few instances where this book makes you feel better.
I 'found comfort' for example in pages 322-323, especially in "Whether or not I have the ability to be any of those things, I do know that I lack the ambition, concentration, focus, and above all will, without which such talents are as useless as an engine without fuel" xD

I definitely need to read this book.
I think sometimes you have to close yourself into a room with books and ink only to emerge after a while a little bit smarter than before, if you want to reach something. Both SF and you are doing this because of simple curiosity, so maybe you don't even notice that you just learned a lot and feel like it was only passing time.

yeah, elsewhere in the book he writes that there's all that malarkey about him having an excellent memory, but it all comes down to the fact that he has this insane desire to know things, to learn information, pretty much to the point of addiction. and that when people say, "oh i have a terrible memory but i can remember hundreds of pop lyrics /everything about my football team" it's because people remember what they are interested in.
i'll lend it to you as soon as i finish it.
